Experiencing culture is an important part of growing up.  In this digital age, human interaction and experience is greatly lacking.  Bring your kids out this summer to a couple of festivals around the Akron Ohio Area.  You will be glad you did.

Pro Football Hall of Fame Festival

Let your son learn to be a man and take him to the annual Pro Football Hall of Fame Festival in Canton (30 miles south of Akron).  This huge shindig gathers in over half a million people.  There are lots of fun activities and events, including the Queen Pageant, Balloon Classic Invitational, races, parades, a Rib Burn-off, and of course the annual Hall of Fame football game.  Admission varies.   This is a late July activity.

Hale Farm Harvest Festival

Show your kids yesteryear.  See how families of the 1700s worked together and prepped for winter at Hale Farm and Village’s Harvest Festival. Their are wagon rides, food, listen to live music, see craft demonstrations, and browse pumpkin patches. This is a mid October activity.

Yankee Peddler Festival

Step back into time to 200 years ago and visit the rustic shops set up by master artists and crafters at Canal Fulton’s popular Yankee Peddler Festival. Enjoy food grilled over an open fire, live entertainment, demonstrations, and lots of shopping. This activity takes place on the weekends in September.  Admission is under $10 for adults and under $4 for children ages 6-11.

National Hamburger Festival

Enjoy live music, Entertainment, and take part in eating competitions at this Lock 3 Park festival.  This mid July festival takes place over a weekend.  Make sure you are there to see the crowning of Miss Hamburger…  Really.
Twenty different restaurants serve their best burgers- a GREAT way to find your favorite one in town.  And if you ask just right, I am sure they can make one with “Just ketchup” for your 6 year old….  The cost is around $5 for ages 8 and up.

Loyal Oak Cider Festival

Apples Apples Apples!  The Loyal Oak Cider Festival brings your kids up close and personal with Eve’s temptation.  Enjoy fresh apples, cider, crafts, fireworks, a parade, and live entertainment. Admission is free.

Italian American Festival

The Italian American Festival in Cuyahoga Falls is always an outstanding event.   Gondola rides, pizza eating contests, and a car show gives your children a chance to spill tomato sauce on their best summer clothes. Free admission, this even takes place at Riverfront Centre.   This is an early July event.

Copley Heritage Day Festival

The Copley Heritage Day Festival features a parade, a bike ride, a pancake breakfast, a K.I.S.S. Quilt raffle, a magic show, a bandstand concert, great good, fireworks, contests, crafts, and children’s activities.  Admission is free.  This late summer event varies locations between Copley Circle and Copley High School.

Magic City Festival

Barberton turns it on in it’s downtown area and includes a parade, live entertainment, fun activities for the whole family, prizes, and Barberton’s Official Rib Burn-Off.

Lake Anna Arts and Crafts Festival

Teach your children the value of art and design, watch various demonstrations, enjoy musicians, and enjoy activities for kids at the Lake Anna Arts and Crafts Festival.   Get your kids interested in working with their hands at the beautiful Lake Anna Park. This mid-July event is a unique alternative to the summer festival/carnival.
