Do you drink less water now that the weather is cooling? Are you still sending water to school with your kids?
Elijah– Professional Kid
Have you heard this? Even adults drink less water when the weather cools. During the colder months of Winter, the cases of dehydration increases. Dehydration in winter is caused by a number of reasons.
- Our bodies have to work harder to humidify the air we breathe outside to warm our bodies up.
- During Winter activities outside, we skip drinking because we feel less thirsty in colder weather.
- We sweat less in the winter, making us not feel like we need to replenish water intake – but look at your dry skin and chapped lips!
- Even the drying air inside your home, school, and office can trigger dehydration if you are not drinking water.
You still need to drink water in the Winter – don’t get dehydrated!
Skipping hydration during the winter is more dangerous because it can quickly lead to hypothermia, frostbite, exhaustion, cramps, loss of coordination and could even lead to a stroke. Being dehydrated can weaken your immune system, leading to catching colds and viruses easier. Dry sinuses can crack, leading to susceptibility to infections.
It is easy to stay hydrated this Winter. Always keep a bottle of water handy with you and your kids wherever you go. Drink water throughout the day and especially at meal time. Don’t wait until you feel thirsty because you are already on the way to dehydration if you wait. Use a sport bottle like Klean Kanteen made BPA and toxin-free, plus they are reusable and don’t add to landfill waste!
Keep Kids Hydrated with Kids Kanteen Sport
For kids to stay hydrated, it has to be fun. If they don’t like the water bottle, they won’t take it out of their book bag, even if you send it with them. We received Klean Kanteen bottles to facilitate this post. My kids really, really like the Kids Kanteen Sport bottles. They come in great colors that kid love and the sport cap makes it easy for them to use on their own.
I like the Kids Kanteens because they are BPA and toxin-free while still durable for all the adventures your kids go on at the playground, basketball court, at school, or the park. They are the perfect size for lunchboxes and backpacks too since they are only 12 oz and leak-proof. The soft silicone cap is perfect for kids since it is gentle on their teeth and mouth.
My daughter specifically mentioned that she liked the handle on the kanteen because she can just put her fingers through it and not have to hold it with both hands. Now she carries her own water bottle while we take hikes!
Doesn’t she look adorable in her new Winter coat that she just HAD to wear this weekend?! It kept her cozy while her Kids Kanteen kept her hydrated. I like the small size, it even fits in a kid’s coat pocket when they don’t want to carry it.
It is just as important for parents to stay hydrated in the winter too! Keep a water bottle by your desk at work, in your car while running errands, and during outside activities. The Klean Kanteen “The Original” Stainless Steel Water Bottle comes in a couple sizes that fit in most cup holders and even bike cages. There is no excuse to not stay hydrated! Again, the shape of the lid makes it easy to carry along on hikes too! I take mine with me everywhere!
My son stole a drink from it as well! On active days like swim team practice and meets, I send him the larger Klean Kanteen to keep him hydrated. He likes the big mouth open spout to get a lot of water fast. He keeps his Kid Kanteen with him at school though. Stay hydrated and active this Winter. Just because the temperatures are dropping doesn’t mean you have to stay inside. The parks are open – unless we have another government shutdown, there are are other local parks to enjoy!
You can purchase Klean Kanteen in a variety of size on the Klean Kanteen website.
