Last year, I was excited to tell you about the Stan Hywet Playgarden that opened this Summer. I had no idea just how marvelous it was going to be! We went to it earlier this month and my kids played for 2-1/2 hours straight!! There is so much to see and explore. Make plans to go several times this Summer with your kids, playgroup, and friends.
The Tudor Playhouse is the playhouse of all playhouses! It is modeled after the Stan Hywet Carriage House with Tudor Revival architecture, complete with an arched drive-through in the middle.
Harmony Hill is designed to instill the Seiberlings’ love of music into the playgarden. The bubble maker pipes also make music when kids hit them with the flat surface of their hands, mimicking the family’s Aeolian organ with 2,670 pipes and 300 chimes.
Did you hear that dog barking? You will when you approach Joe’s Dig! Not only does a recording of a St. Bernard draw you to this part of the playgarden but so will the doghouse that leads to a dog bone shaped sand box where kids can have fun digging and playing in the sand.
My kids had a blast on every element of the playground, imagining they were driving a Model A Ford truck to an archaeological dig! They always came back to the magic of the bubble machine! It is something that is sure to put a huge smile on every child’s face – including us older kids!
The splash fountain is a favorite on hot days with squirting water shooting up from the ground. There is a button on the rock nearby to play music to add to the joy! From there, follow the footprints to enjoy a friendly game of lawn bowling.
Become a spider on the giant spider web! Or, become the fly. My kids played a game where the spider sat in the middle with their eyes closed, then the fly landed on one of the webs. The spider had to figure out where the fly ‘landed’ based on the movement of the ropes. How creative!
Step inside an enormous bird’s nest and instantly feel small like a baby bird! Crawl through Critter’s Hollow, an old hallowed out tree trunk where critters run to escape. Or step inside a giant beehive – be careful as there is a giant bee hovering from above!
