My husband and I had the most fantastic time at opening night of Cirque du Soleil’s Dralion. It was the best show we have ever seen. We are still excited and can’t stop talking about how wonderful the show was. If you are going to go to any show this year in Cleveland, this is the show to attend. I’m not exaggerating a bit.
We were at the edge of our seats for the entire performance, not wanting to miss a thing and not wanting this over 2 hour performance to end. Cirque du Soleil transported us to a mythical time and place, it didn’t feel like we were in Cleveland, Ohio anymore.
I don’t know where to begin, the show was that amazing. I couldn’t stop smiling, I was in complete awe the entire time. There was so much to see on stage and we didn’t want to miss a thing, but it was impossible to see every single amazing thing going on at the same time.
Favorite Cirque du Soleil Dralion Acts
It is hard to narrow it down to just a few but here are our favorites:
- Trampoline – There were 2 large trampolines on either side of the stage. Aerialists would jump down from the towering wall and bounce back up to various spots on the side and top of the wall and across the stage to the other trampoline. You have to see it to believe it!
- Dralions – This was another favorite for both my husband and I. Kids would love this too. The Chinese dragons put on a light-hearted dance with multiple stunts. They look so real and friendly, I wanted to run and jump with them. The costumes were perfect, right down to the face painting on both people that were in the costumes. You are left for a moment to be disappointed with the view of a “regular person playing a dragon”. I was very impressed that even the person playing the back of the Chinese dragon had their face painted.
- Hoop Diving – This face-paced act was full of amazing feats of athleticism set to the beat of African influenced music.
- Aerial Pas de Deux – This aerial dance of would-be lovers was one of my favorites. The use of the long band of cloth allowed the couple to dance in the air.

The performances were captivating, like nothing I’ve ever seen. They make other acrobat shows and acts look like amateurs. The entire performance was flawless.
Many times when I go to a circus or other event, I cringe and fear for the safety of the performers. It literally stresses me out for fear that the performers will get hurt. The acts Cirque du Soleil’s Dralion were breath-taking but not one time did I have that cringe. It was if these performers WERE the characters they were playing, like they had mythical abilities to soar through the air, leap high into the sky, balance in un-human ways, and climb towering walls. Every move was so choreographed and perfected to the point that it looked natural and effortless.
Cirque du Soleil’s Dralion Review
Without any hesitation, I recommend attending Cirque du Soleil’s Dralion. The entire experience is top notch. The performance was breathtaking! The costumes are absolutely stunning – I could talk about how amazing they were for hours. With influences from China, India, and Africa, they were gorgeous! Even the makeup was beyond impressive for any show I’ve ever attended. See below how elaborate the costumes are with the key performers of Air, Water, Fire, and Earth.
