Craft Gifts for Kids – Kiwi Crate Craft & Learning Kits

My kids LOVE to do crafts! They also LOVE to do experiments. Though the messes make me a bit crazy sometimes, I do love the creativity it spurs on, and the learning that takes place with their projects.  I imagine you know some little people that are the same way?  Have I got the perfect craft gifts for kids gift idea for you!  Kiwi Crate is a subscription service that harnesses kids’ natural curiosity and creativity, and makes it unbelievably easy for us parents or grandparents to indulge our little Picassos and Einsteins!

Kiwi Crate – What’s it All About?

Kiwi Crate is a subscription-based activity service for kids.  They create themed kits (colors, gardening, dinosaurs) and pull together all the materials and ideas needed to complete projects based on that theme.  These kits are created for kids ages 3-6.

You subscribe to Kiwi Crates on a monthly ($19.95), three month ($60), six month ($110), or yearly basis ($220 includes 1 free month). Like clockwork, a new crate is mailed to your doorstep each month for which you subscribed.  All you need to do is open up the box and get ready for some hands-on fun!

Our Review of Kiwi Crates – Crafts Projects for Kids

We were able to review the Colors crate, filled with crafts projects for kids.  Lila, my four year old,  was so excited about the Colors Kiwi Crate, she had a hard time picking which activity she wanted to start with.  Finally, she decided to create her own stained glass window first. The kit included enough stained glass supplies to make 3 “window” frames.  Lila loved layering the tissue paper squares creating her own works of art.  Then she experimented with the blue glasses from the kit, and the colored films.

We talked about how her stained glass looked different using the glasses and the films, and about how colors combined to make new colors.  Kiwi Crate’s website also has additional resources for each theme if your child wants to dig even deeper into a particular theme.

She then moved on to the spinning top experiment and activities.  I have to admit, this one was exciting for me, too.  Lila’s nine year old sister even joined us for this part.  Did you know that an octagonal shaped top looks round when it spins?  And that patterns and colors change their appearance while spinning?  The girls had a blast creating their own custom paper designs to fit over the tops from the Kiwi Crate.  What fun science!

Lila finished the evening last night by doing the bonus activity in the kit – dying a little bag with leftover colored tissue paper squares from the kit.  She had such fun creating her design and using the eye dropper to wet each of the pieces of tissue, then watching the colors bleed onto the bag.

When she got home from preschool today, she went right for the Kiwi Crate again.  She made the last of the 3 stained glass windows, and made a new pattern for one of the tops as well.  This one crate provided us with several hours of creative fun!

What Makes Kiwi Crates So Special?

With a mom who was a preschool teacher and director for years, I’ve got a genetic propensity towards crafting with my girls.  🙂  But I have to admit, there are days when I’m out of ideas and  inspiration, and would love a pre-made craft and learning experience for my kiddos.  Kiwi Crates are just that!  These fun kits contain everything you need to get your kids’ wheels turning, their hands busy, and their creative juices flowing!  In fact, that’s one of the things I liked most about the Kiwi Crate.  I didn’t have to do any pre-planning or searching on the web for ideas – I simply opened up the crate, and voila!  Supplies, instructions, and even sample brain-boosting questions were all right before my very eyes.  Fantastic!  Parents and grandparents: these wonderful crates have Winter Boredom Buster written all over them!

Kids get so many toys that don’t really have educational value at the holidays.  Why not encourage your child’s natural curiosity for the world around them with these great kits?!
