It feels good to help. Every time my kids have the opportunity to volunteer, they love it and want to do it again. The problem is finding places where kids can volunteer to do meaningful work. ACCESS Shelter has a new program that gets the whole family involved – kids included – called The Family Meal Program.
Access Shelter Family Meal Program
Families (or organizations) can pick a day – 7 days a week to volunteer to prepare a meal for 35 women and children and serve the meal to the guests at ACCESS Shelter. This brand new program begins at home. Your family will purchase and prepare the meal at home. You’ll bring that meal to the shelter, finish up last minute finishing touches and then serve the meal to the women and children at ACCESS.
ACCESS is dedicated to addressing the plight of homeless women and children in Akron, Ohio. Their housing program, advocacy and empowerment programs help women attain self-sufficiency in a safe and holistic environment.
The Family Meal Program brings your family together around your kitchen, preparing food for those in need. Food has an amazing way of bringing people together and gets conversations flowing. This is a wonderful opportunity for you to talk about and show your kids what compassion, giving, and heart-felt caring looks like in real life.
Not only will you be preparing the food but also connecting with those that will benefit from your family’s meal. What an amazing experience start to finish for families or groups to do together. In addition to families, this is a great opportunity for ‘girls night out’, youth groups, small groups, clubs, corporate outings, and other groups to do good together.
Don’t have time to prepare the meal at home? You may bring in catered food as well and still have the opportunity to give and serve these women and children in need.
