High Cotton BBQ Review
High Cotton BBQ has two entrances, for either dine-in or take-out through the gift shop. This casual, sit-down restaurant is great for families ready to enjoy good BBQ.
Their motto is “Barbecue – That’s All We Do”. You can enjoy Barbecue salads, Barbecue stew, Hand-chopped Pork, Smoked Barbecue chicken, Barbecue beef brisket, Barbecue ribs, and Pork Barbecue.
We decided to sample a little bit of everything at High Cotton BBQ. I enjoyed the pulled pork with a side of hush puppies, Brunswick stew, and vegetables. The pulled pork was so moist and tender. The flavor was just perfect with no need for extra sauce, although their bbq sauce is incredible! Brunswick stew is a hearty tomato based stew of vegetables, potatoes, pork, and smoked chicken, it is the type of stew that would make a fall or winter evening nice and cozy. The vegetables were delicious, I especially liked the inclusion of lima beans in the dish as I don’t cook much with lima beans since my husband doesn’t care for them. I’d love to have this recipe.
My husband enjoyed BBQ beef brisket with a side of cole slaw and beans. He really enjoyed the flavor of sweet molasses sauce on the beef brisket. In fact, we brought a bottle home with us. I’m sure I won’t be able to replicate either dish, but the sauce will help anything I attempt! This is a hearty meal, even for men. My husband especially liked the BBQ sauce because it was made up of more vinegar than ketchup, which is right in line for the Easter 1/2 of North Carnolina. He knows his BBQ!
Kids Meals at High Cotton NC BBQ
My kids ordered from their kid’s meal which has plenty of variety as well as simple items for picky kids. The kid’s meals are large enough for even older kids with big appetites. My kids could have shared one meal easily.
Elijah was very excited to have his own ½ rack of bbq baby back ribs to himself. Plus, they served it with a knife, making him feel like a grown up. The ribs were super tasty and tender, just delicious. The meat fell right off the bone. He enjoyed a side of green beans and fries too.
Elizabeth tried the bbq chicken with French fries and green beans. She ate up the bbq chicken which was seasoned just right for kids. The green beans were so tasty, like fresh home-grown green beans. Elizabeth found a new favorite, hushpuppies. In fact, I think she ate 3 or 4!
Introducing kids to new types of food and flavors while on vacation is natural and easy to do. This Outer Banks Vacation has taught me many new foods that my kids will eat.
My family had a very enjoyable experience at High Cotton BBQ. The staff is super friendly and helpful. The menu is full of great bbq options for every appetite. The portions are plentiful and the prices are very reasonable.
High Cotton BBQ also has a take-out menu as well as a store for sauces and more. If you want to enjoy great North Carolina BBQ while visiting the Outer Banks, High Cotton BBQ is the place for you in Kitty Hawk, NC.
