Have you ever heard of “Artists Sunday”?

Black Friday. Small Business Saturday. Cyber Monday. And introducing … Artists Sunday!

These days are wildly important to bargain-hunting shoppers. We’re all familiar with them, but did you know that in 2019, artists worldwide decided that they should dedicate a day to promote their wares and creations on Thanksgiving weekend? Artists Sunday is the world’s largest art event, dedicated to supporting artists, makers, and creators and recognizing the impact they have in enriching our lives, communities, and the economy.

While shoppers are going insane inside of box stores or hoping their online orders aren’t sitting on a docked ship somewhere, your gift-giving needs are right in front of you, here in Downtown Cuyahoga Falls!

Join Cuyahoga Valley Art Center, Looking Glass Gifts & Gallery, Marketing Juice, Up Front Art Space, and Up Front Art Supply for an exciting Art Passport Giveaway on Sunday, November 28th! Visit these establishments, get your passport stamped the same day, and enter to win! It’s that simple! The grand prize is a basket full of local goodies! These businesses will be open on Small Business Saturday from 11-7 and 11-5 on Artists Sunday. Check out this link for more details.

While you’re at the Cuyahoga Valley Art Center, check out the talented artists who have lent their work to the gallery for display. Looking to minimize stuff? Give the gift of experience this Christmas with an art class. The CVAC offers a variety of art classes for all ages.

Housed in an old bank with the vault still intact, at Looking Glass Gifts & Gallery you will find a lovely selection of beautiful and unique art, gifts, and handmade Free Trade options from around the globe, that won’t break the bank. See what I did there? Anyway, LGG&G also painstakingly photographs and lists consigners’ items for sale on their website. See something you like? LGG&G offers wishlist and gift registry options.

Marketing Juice, located on Portage Trail, has a rentable Community Space & Classroom where they will be displaying the work of following artists:

Miranda Imperi Photography, Tom the Clay Engineer, Brenda O’Brien Photography, Brittany Luciani (Barren Lands Art), and Sense by the Falls (Candles).

Last but not least, Up Front Art Space offers a menagerie of art related notions. Not only are they an art gallery exhibiting talented local artists, they accept local artists’ wares on consignment, they offer the ever-popular group painting classes, and they provide professional framing, matting, and art restoration services. Because of Covid and their care of local artists, they also offer a year-long membership to the Up Front Art Space Bruno Putze Artist Program – free of charge! Their newest endeavor, Up Front Art Supply is a new, up and coming art supply shop. Local artists showcased there on Sunday will be:

Bethany Mackey (Creative Fish), Anne Geraghty (A-Squared Art), Dexter Blanding, Lavonne Fawcett, Jenny Eisenberger, and Jackie Palumbo.

Why are these local businesses sponsoring this event? Because they all focus on local artists and their mission is to spread awareness about Artists Sunday, as well as bring much needed attention to the local galleries and art outlets in town. To be honest, I didn’t know these places were down there and I live and work in this community. They are hidden gems that need to be explored and patronized.

Art means different things to different people. Picasso. Grandma’s crocheted afghan. Photography. Stained glass. All art mediums should be appreciated, valued, and celebrated! Join us this Artists Sunday for local shopping while checking out the art scene here in Cuyahoga Falls!
