With 800,000 Christmas Lights, History, and some of the most beautiful scenes in Ohio, Stan Hywet in West Akron Lights it all up with pride and surprises from now through the end of the year! Experience the DECK THE HALL Christmas Presentation!
ONE: The new Downtown Akron Christmas Window
With full moving trains blimps and delightful detail, the new window near the carriage house is a throw back to yesteryear and beautiful eye candy. Hear from the artist how it was created from scratch.
TWO: The Dazzle Light Show
While the entire manor is covered in 800,000 lights, the DAZZLE light show (a new music score and show in 2015!) lights up your view with jumping color and sound with most of those lights ( I didn’t count, just guessing)! The 19 minute show runs every 2o minutes till closing at 9. Here is a sneak preview:
3: Nostalgic and Elaborate Displays
Every year a new theme, the rooms of Stan Hywet are decked out as they may have been in the 1920s era this season. Electric Trains, down home decor, and photos of grandchildren throughout! Every year I receive requests photos from an earlier Stan Hywet post for some of the images taken with my children looking at ornaments… they’re always so heavenly!
4:The bright lights of Gingerbread Land
The Stan Hywet Play garden is transformed with the rest of the lights into an amazing display perfect for any child under 10 to feel they are at a well decorated north pole. This display beats any mall display from my youth and beyond by an extreme margin.
5: Daily Tree Lighting
The Stan Hywet Christmas tree is lit daily at 5:30 in the carriage house court yard, in the presence of Santa, your gingerbread cookie shop, and the Downtown Akron Window Display.
6: Entertainment in the Music Room
We were blessed to see a ballet scene on our visit. Scheduled Music Room Entertainment is on the Stan Hywet website.
7: The Blessings of Gingerbread
Baked Gingerbread Cookies straight right out of the oven are available right next to the Christmas Tree at the Carriage House. Every year I hear from my son how, in 2011, we arrived late and they happened to be OUT of cookies… BAD YEAR… I’m reminded every year. Alas, they’ve not run out since!
8: The Green House
There’s nothing quite like visiting a heated green house/conservatory / hot house in the winter. The green, the smell, the humidity and the heat warms up a body in mere seconds.
Both the main green house and the tropical hot house are decorated… The waterfall and the lights in this warm atrium are truly unique, and a feast for the eyes.
AND, there’s a few surprises.
My children did NOT know WHAT to think about this Dress/Christmas Tree Mannequin!
9: Molly’s Shop
The Stan Hywet Botique rivals stores across the country with its well lit displays, unique items and decor, and Stan Hywet themed gifts. This is not a ‘exit through the gift shop’ experience.. This is a destination!
