Is Cedar Point a good place for young kids and families?

We had the privilege to attend Cedar Point’s Opening Day on Saturday and meet with the marketing department to get a preview of their new ride, Shoot the Rapids. I haven’t been to Cedar Point since my kids were born more than 5 years ago. We thought about it last year but wasn’t sure if my 2 year old would be old enough or have fun. If I had known then what I know now, we would have gone last year for sure. Cedar Point is a great place for young kids and families and you can see why with the following post.

Not many moments in life can be compared to the magic of seeing your kids experience something amazing for the first time! My kids are ages 3 and 5, I thought for sure they would be cranky and tired and want to go home by 4pm. The entire day at Cedar Point my kids had huge smiles on their faces, excitement in their eyes,  while giggling and laughing the whole day! We were there from 10:30am – 9:30pm and they wanted more! I haven’t heard my kids say “I love you” more times in a day than on Cedar Point Opening Day!

Cedar Point for Families

Seeing Cedar Point as a parent gave me a whole new perspective on the park.  As a child, teen, and grown up without kids, I loved the thrill and excitement of the rides. As a parent, I now see  Cedar Point with the family as the best! To say the least, I was very pleased with Cedar Point for families. I love to see my kids so happy, I love to hear them laugh out loud, I love to see them try new things, I love great family times together. Cedar Point delivers it all! It wasn’t just my kids having fun either, my husband and I had a blast. We were able to ride a lot of the rides with our kids and they were allowed to ride quite a few grown-up rides.

As a mom, I was glad to see that they have some safety precautions in place for kids. Cedar Point KidTrack is a simple way to reunite kids that stray from their parents. It is another arm band kids wear with their parent’s cell phone # written on the inside. If your child gets lost, an employee can call you.

1st Stop – Kiddy Kingdom

We started our family Cedar Point adventure at the Kiddy Kingdom where there are 13 rides for kids to spin, soar, float, and speed on. My kids loved the Helicopters, Carrousel, Krazy bumper Kars, and the Roto Whip the best, although we rode every single one and had a great time.  Lines were so short that my kids never had to wait more than 1 round to get a turn which is perfect for little ones. The ride attendants are so through with strapping kids in and then unlatching them when the ride is over. I didn’t worry one time that the kids were not fully secured.

Up, up, up on the Giant Wheel…

Next, we made our way to the Giant Ferris Wheel. Wow, I didn’t realize how high up that Giant Wheel really was! My kids had no fear of heights and loved looking over Lake Erie and the rest of the park. They said that the people looked so little down below!

Planet Snoopy here we come!

Next, we walked over to Planet Snoopy. The lovable Snoopy is celebrating his 60 year anniversary this year at Cedar Point, amazing, he still has a spring in his step and is lots of fun. We actually got out picture taken with the Snoopy. Planet Snoopy has another 7 rides for kids to ride on and some even parents can ride with the kids which is a lot of fun.

There is lots to explore on Planet Snoopy. The rides are fabulous and newer so they offer more high tech looking elements and are stunning visually with bright colors. There is even a waterfall at the center for kids to check out, Cedar Point sure does know what kids like! And, they know what Parents need. There are plenty of shady spots and benches to take a rest throughout  Planet Snoopy. Don’t worry if your little one needs a quick potty break or a diaper change. The Family Care Center is located here with clean changing stations and quiet areas to feed the wee little ones.

Snoopy can be found throughout the park and is always fun to spy. Park officials note that there is only 1 Snoopy in ‘real life’ so there is only one roaming the park at once so as not to confuse the kids or his biggest fans. Here’s a picture of Veronica, a new AkronOhioMoms.com blogger with me.

Hanging out at Camp Snoopy

I love that there are rides for kids throughout the entire park, not confined to one location. There are rides scattered throughout the park for all ages. After a yummy lunch of burgers and fries, we headed to Camp Snoopy. Actually, Camp Snoopy found us with the enormous Snoopy Bounce. The kids had a super time bouncing in the gigantic bouncy house!

You can see that there are rides where parents can choose to ride with their kids here at Camp Snoopy. This is excellent for kids that are unsure if they want to ride. It is required on some rides based on the height of your child but I think it is great that this is an option. It’s so neat to experience the excitement of Cedar Point rides with your kids.

Camp Snoopy is also home of the Camp Snoopy Theatre where there are interactive shows daily. Kids love to sing and dance with Charlie Brown, Lucy, Linus, and Snoopy. The shows change throughout the Summer so there is always something new to see! I like that Cedar Point doesn’t just cram rides into one spot but they take the time to create themed areas with great designs like the waterfall at Camp Snoopy below.

Woodstock Express was my kids first roller coaster ride. They loved it! Elizabeth said, “Look all of the people down there are so small!”  Maybe I’m easily entertained but it was even a thrill for me!

I think we liked Camp Snoopy the best as adults because not only could we ride the rides with our kids but they were fun rides for us too. The kids felt safe riding with mom and dad and never got upset or scared of ‘big rides’.

More Cedar Point Family Rides

By around 3pm, we were ready to relax a bit. The Paddlewheel Excursion was just what we needed. We took the paddlewheel ride around the river getting great views of rides and a sneak peek at the new Shoot the Rapids ride. Our tour guide had lots of great, corny jokes that even the kids laughed at!

Next, we took a ride on the Sky Ride, another ride that proved my kids are not afraid of heights. They loved looking out over the park and talking about each ride that they already rode. We rode it twice but they wanted to ride it again! The Sky Ride actually puts the park in perspective, it’s massive! Cedar Point was named “Best Amusement Park in the World” this year for the 12th consecutive year by Amusement Today.

Take your family to Cedar Point this Summer

If there is only one thing you do with your kids this Summer, take them to Cedar Point. You won’t regret it. You will have fun and your kids will have an experience that they will talk about and remember for many months to come! Cedar Point is offering amazing deals and discounts this year too. Kids under 2 get in free. There are great deals where you can get tickets for only $34.99 for adults and $19.99 for kids on their website. You can save even more when you stay at their various resorts.

This was not a paid post. My own opinions were used based on my perceptions and experience. Thank you to Cedar Point who supplied the tickets for the review.
