Your kids will be out of school on Monday, January 20, 2020 to honor Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Spend the day at one of these FREE and family fun events in and around Akron. Most of the events are centered around celebrating the Civil Rights leader’s life and legacy.

Akron Zoo offers FREE Admission on Martin Luther King Jr. Day

In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the Akron Zoo is offering FREE admission for all guests on Monday, January 20 from 1-4pm. Enjoy the entire zoo as well as fun activities provide by the Akron Chapter of NAACP.  Be sure to check out their new winter Family Fun Zone too with giant games, sports station, up-close animal encounters, crafts and more in Komodo Kingdom.

Akron Art Museum offers FREE admission on Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Enjoy a FREE afternoon of games, storytelling, and hands-on activities to celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at Akron Art Museum on January 20th from 1-4pm.  Enjoy Distance of the Moon and artwork in the collection galleries to see how artists have translated their personal stories and world events into paintings, drawings, photos and sculpture.

FREE School’s Out Cookout at Liberty Park in Twinsburg

Bring your own hot dogs and buns to cook over an open fire at Liberty Park on January 20th from 11:30am – 12:30pm with complimentary drinks and condiments. Enjoy nature trivia while cooking and eating your lunch. Plan on taking a hike afterward at one of their 4 trails. We love their Glacier Cave and snadstone ledges!

FREE School’s Out S’Mores and Birds in Winter Program at Firestone Metro Park

Stop by Firestone Metro Park from 3-4pm on January 20th and gather around winter campfire to roast s’mores! All the ingredients will be provided, while supplies last.

The Redwing Trail is a great 1 mile walk with views of Tuscarawas River.

FREE Martin Luther King Jr. Activities Fair at The University of Akron

Celebrate the life of Martin Luther King Jr. at The University of Akron Activities Fair on Monday, January 20, 2020, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., in the Jean Hower Taber Student Union Ballroom. Activities include -Biographic information on Martin Luther King Jr. Historical information on the Civil Rights Movement, Martin Luther King Jr. gallery and other visual displays, Performances, Arts and crafts, and Information about various organizations.

Parking is available at the meters outside the Jean Hower Taber Student Union and in the Schrank Hall parking decks.

Great Lakes Science Center offers FREE admission on Martin Luther King Jr. Day

In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Great Lakes Science Center will offer FREE general admission to all guests from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, January 20. There will be special programming including live science demonstrations, hands-on science cart activities, Curiosity Carnival, NASA Glenn Visitor Center, Polymer Funhouse, and hundreds of hands-on interactive science exhibits. Parking is $7, COME theater tickets are discounted for the event adults: $8.95 and youth $6.95
