Whether you are republican, democrat, or an independent voter, it should be exciting to see Cleveland being showcased nationally with the Republican National Convention (RNC). People will be pouring in for next week’s convention and Cleveland will be in the spotlight. Even your children are probably aware of the local television and radio coverage, heavy traffic surround Cleveland and into Akron, and chit-chat among adults.
Although not affiliated with the Republican National Convention, there is an event in Shaker Heights for kids right before the RNC starts.
Join me and my family on Sunday, July 17th from 1-3pm in Shaker Heights for a FREE book reading and discussion on the new children’s book, Let’s Vote at Loganberry Books.
Miles from the RNC Event Zone, there may be more traffic on the highways but no worries of protestors or potential violence that has be speculated in the news.
Loganberry Books is a quaint bookstore in Shaker Heights with excellent author book readings and signing events every month. The author of Let’s Vote, Anita Iaco thought the RNC would be an excellent time to meet with families to talk about voting and give kids a better understanding of the political world around them in a fun, family-friendly environment. It is a great way to make the Cleveland RNC for kids.
Let’s Vote is a fun way to teach children the importance of voting and the importance of character of those we vote for as adults. In this book, the author puts your child in a familiar classroom setting in which kids must vote for a class fruit. Since fruit cannot talk, one child is chosen to represent each of 3 fruit on the ballot. The campaign quickly becomes murky – as real life campaigns do as well – with kids making promises that can’t be kept and even telling lies about other fruit.

With the upcoming presidential election, now is the time to teach our children the importance of voting and why it is not only our right but a privilege to vote.
