Is Marvel Studios’ ANT-MAN AND THE WASP OK for Kids? #ANTMANANDTHEWASP

ANT-MAN AND THE WASP ok for kids

ANT-MAN AND THE WASP is in theaters July 6th! Rated PG13, many parents are wondering if ANT-MAN AND THE WASP is ok for kids. As a protective parent, I was pleasantly surprised by how mild this Marvel superhero movie was in terms of violence, language, sexual content, and overall family theme.

ANT-MAN AND THE WASP is a lighthearted, action-packed movie that takes place after CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR but before INFINITY WAR.  Under house arrest due to his choices in the first ANT-MAN movie, Scott Lang works hard to give his daughter an exciting and loving childhood while confined to his house.

The positive family theme runs throughout the movie with Scott Lang (Ant-Man) and his daughter Cassie as well as with Wasp and her parents. The connection between parent and child runs deep in this movie.

Although less intense and less violent than other Marvel movies, ANT-MAN AND THE WASP is action-packed with plenty of intense chase sequences and hand-to-hand combat.

Similar to the first ANT-MAN, this movie provides plenty of entertainment for the whole family to enjoy without off-color humor. I haven’t laughed so much at a movie in a long time. I loved the type of humor this movie offers. They had a LOT of fun with the shrinking of people and items in this movie. Our favorites were of a salt shaker in a fight scene and of the Pez dispenser in a chase scene. “You’ve Been Pezzed” is a phrase my family has been repeating since we saw the movie! You’ll understand once you see it!

The CGI animation is phenomenal, it is an amazing movie to watch. I suggest spending the extra money to see it in 3D, if possible.

Here is a quick behind the scenes featurette that reveals ANT-MAN and the WASP powers with Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly.

So, is Marvel Studios’ ANT-MAN AND THE WASP OK for Kids? Obviously, you have to use your own judgment on this one. There is violence but very little blood. There are swear words including bulls–t, ass, damn, and Oh My G-d in the movie, but minimal. It is dramatic with intense and surprising scenes including that of WASP losing her mom as a child. There were no sexual jokes or scenes beyond a couple small kisses between couples.

My kids are 11 and 13 and I had no problem with them watching this movie. I didn’t leave the theater feeling like a horrible parent for allowing to see this Marvel movie. Again, use your own judgment but I feel like ANT-MAN AND THE WASP is OK for kids ages 10+, with parental guidance.
