It is rare to find a film that is truly inspirational from start to finish, but David is exactly that. This stunning animated retelling of the classic Bible story is the type of movie everyone needs to see right now—young and old alike. It serves as a powerful example of courage and faith, two traits that are more relevant today than ever before.
My husband and I were able to watch an advanced screening earlier this fall, and we loved it. The story comes to life in a big way on the big screen starting December 19th, and I encourage you to add it to your Christmas schedule immediately.
The Experience: More Than Just a Cartoon
As soon as the movie started, I was blown away by the animation. It is absolutely phenomenal—honestly, it rivals anything you’d see from the big Hollywood studios. The landscapes of ancient Israel are stunning (it almost made me forget the freezing temps here in Akron!), and the attention to detail is breathtaking.
I immediately thought of my son, Elijah. As an artist and an outdoorsman who loves bushcraft, he would have appreciated the incredible skill in the animation and the rugged, realistic way they showed David protecting his flock in the wild. It wasn’t “fluffy”; it was real and gritty in the best way but not too scary for the little kids.
And then there’s the music. My daughter Elizabeth, who is a huge fan of “The Chosen” (another Angel Studios hit!) and loves to sing, would absolutely adore the soundtrack. Hearing the voices of Phil Wickham and Lauren Daigle brings such a powerful, worshipful element to the story. It stirs something up inside you—emotion, passion, and a desire to mimic David’s courage in your own life.
The “Mom” Review: Why You Need to Go
With so much junk on the big screen—and the little screens on our phones that our kids are glued to—having David come along feels like the right movie at the right time.
Ages: This is perfect for young and old. My husband and I loved it just as much as the kids in the theater did.
The Message: It’s a story of courage and faith—two traits we all need, whether we are 8 or 80. It shows that God looks at the heart, not the outward appearance, a lesson that is more relevant now than ever.
Insider Tip: Bring tissues! There are moments that are so moving, you’ll definitely get teary-eyed.
Pay It Forward: A Gift for Every Family
Here is the best part. Angel Studios wants everyone to see this movie, even if finances are tight this holiday season. They have a “Pay It Forward” model where you can claim free tickets or donate to help others go.
They are giving away 1 million free tickets for kids to see this movie! How amazing is that?

We are already planning to go back and see it again when it officially opens on December 19th. Maybe we’ll see you at the theater!
