Thanksgiving break brought our college kids back home, but it also brought something else into our living room: the launch of the final season of Stranger Things! Fans have waited since 2022 to return to Hawkins, and anticipation has been sky-high for all of us waiting!

Our family has watched every season together since my kids were in middle and high school, so gearing up for this final chapter felt like coming back to a shared tradition. My daughter and I have been trying to rewatch the last season since she’s been home – I’ve loved spending time together!

The night before Thanksgiving was the big night. My daughter invited her boyfriend over. We had dinner together, played a couple board games together and settled in for Episode 1 at exactly 8pm! After watching the first episode together, the “kids” took over. Our home has a revolving door when my kids are home from college. Between my daughter and son, there were kids in and out all night long for and impromptu Stranger Things binge watch party!

I love how Stranger Things still pulls everyone in—college kids, young adults, and even us parents—and gives us a reason to sit down together again. It’s rare for a series to cross generations like this, and I think that’s why the finale feels like such a big moment for so many families.

I love having my kids home from college and my living room being taken over by all of their friends. Bobbi Beck has reimagined some iconic TV living rooms being taken over by the Upside Down. Check out there 3 stunning interior designs reimagining beloved TV living rooms as if the Upside Down had taken hold.

Their Creative Director, James Mellan-Matulewicz, transformed three of the most recognizable sets in pop-culture history:

  • Friends

  • The Big Bang Theory

  • The Simpsons

I love how each room is instantly recognizable but creepy at the same time! The bones of the rooms remain the same, but the color, warmth, and comfort have been replaced with the cold, organic creepiness of the Upside Down. The thing that gets me creeped out the most is the red growth that spread across the furniture, up the walls, and on the floors – there is no way you could get away from it! The rooms are also transformed by darkness and shawdows, giving you the feeling that something is lurking just out of view ready to get you. I love the creativity of Bobbi Beck. It makes me wonder what our living room would look like in the Upside Down too! My kids thought it would be cool if Bobbi Beck created an app or something to give this look to our house, I don’t think I could un-see it if he did!

This is just a fun post about a show that brought us together this break. I just love anything that pulls everyone off their phones and together so we can chat, laugh and have fun together in the same room, just like old times. From what I understand, they are releasing new episodes of Stranger Things right before Christmas and New Year’s too, so that gives us all a little time to figure out the best Stranger Things party and/or family time to have while our kids are home together under one roof. I love that they chose these release dates of the final episodes of Stranger Things, don’t you?
