National Camping Week is June 24-26; Tips and Trends for Camping and RVing with Travel Expert Kim Orlando (Video)

National Camping Week is June 24-29. Get in on the camping and RVing action this summer with these trends and tips from travel expert and mom of three, Kim Orlando, founder and editor of travelingmom.com.

Go Camping This Summer

According to Kim, 20 million people will go camping this year in 16,000 campgrounds nationwide. But as she explains in the video below, camping is not what it used to be. The majority of families are no longer popping up a tent in the middle of the woods, but rather renting cottages or buying RVs and bringing all the comforts of home into the great outdoors.

Camping, and the on-trend RVing and renting of Park Model cabins, are a great way for families to take a vacation without going very far or having to spend a ton of money.  According to a survey from Campfire Canvass (a biannual survey from the Recreational Vehicle Industry Association) the top reasons families are choosing to camp this way is because it allows them to enjoy outdoor activities, enables them to take more mini-vacations throughout the season and lets them spend quality time together as a family.

I came to Akron 10 years ago for school and have been here ever since. My husband Matt, little guy Spencer and fur baby Mason call Green home and love taking advantage of the lakes, parks and fresh farmer's markets right in our backyard! A graduate of The University of Akron with a degree in Mass Communication and English, I've worked in news, radio, publishing and magazine writing, education, and public relations--but writing is my passion. In my free time I enjoy cooking, a good book, yoga, running, cheering on the Zips and experiencing all the great things the Akron area has to offer! Toni blogged for AkronOhioMoms in 2013.
