The Butterfly House

The Butterfly House is a must-see for every age. We have been visiting The Butterfly House since my kids were 3 & 5 years old and each year they seem to enjoy it more and more. The aviary is huge, 4,000 sq ft total and is home to thousands of butterflies.  Kids can see the “nursery” as they enter where they will see butterflies at various stages of development.  Once inside, butterflies all types flutter and fly around the gorgeous aviary that is filled with butterfly-lovin’ plants and flowers. There are lovely gazebos and benches throughout to rest and wait for a butterfly to land on you!

This is one of the most relaxing and beautiful places on the island to take in nature’s beauty. It is amazing how patient and quiet kids can be when they want to see a butterfly up close and when one lands on them!  My daughter is 5 now and was standing completely still just waiting for a butterfly to land on her. Thankfully she had plenty that did!  My son was a natural, he must have been wearing the perfect colors because they kept landing on him. It made their day!
Allow yourself at least 45 minutes to 1 hour to enjoy your time here. You can even come back as many times as you want during your 1-day visit for free. Don’t rush through this attraction, it is the perfect place to rest and enjoy natural beauty of butterflies and flowers galore. The gift shop is 5,00 sq ft of great gift items as well, perfect for birthdays and Christmas! See previous year Butterfly House review here.

Perry’s Cave

We go to Perry’s Cave every time we visit Put-in-Bay. See previous year Perry’s Cave review here. Perry’s Cave is 52 feet below the ground.  Walking down the rock steps underneath the earth is always such a thrill. Then, once you are down below, it is amazing that this huge 208 feet long and 165 feet wide natural limestone cave was secretly hiding the whole time beneath the earth! The stories of how the cave helped in war efforts and was thought to help even cure and heal people is so interesting. Perry’s Cave makes history come to life!

Perry Cave tours are about 30 minutes long, be sure to bring a sweater! It is just hard to take photos underground but believe me, we had a great time and can never visit Put-in-Bay without a stop at Perry’s Cave!

Rock Climbing Wall

This was the first year we tried the Rock Climbing Wall. In fact, none of us have ever been rock climbing!

There are 4 walls to choose from. One person can be climbing a wall at a time, so if there is a line, it goes quickly.  Each wall is different and rated according to their difficulty. We stuck with easy and easiest!  Our kids did very well, however us moms had a little difficulty!  Actually, my friend, the yoga-queen climbed up pretty quickly whereas I whined and screamed the whole time for fear of heights! ha! It was thrilling and exciting and definately something to add to your Put-in-Bay itinerary!

Fort aMAZE’n

My kids love written mazes so of course they were thrilled to go throug Fort aMAZE’n!  It is so much fun to walk through and totally get lost in! Onlookers can stand up above on the look-out platforms to watch! This is the perfect options for moms that want to keep an eye on their kids without getting lost themselves in the maze, although I highly recommend adults go through the maze too because it isn’t as easy as you would think!

There are 4 stops throughout the maze where you can get your card stamped with the letters M-A-Z-E. It’s easier said than done, we’ve never been able to get to all 4! If you do finish, you can save money on re-runs through the maze. See our previous year Fort aMAZE’n review here.
