If you are looking for waterfalls in Ohio, check out Bedford Reservation in Cleveland Metroparks. This is a gorgeous park right in the city of Walton Hills that is home of a breathtaking gorge and creek surrounded by hiking tails, bridal tails, picnic sites, golf, mountain biking trails, and over 70 cascades and waterfalls!! The Great Falls of Bedford Creek are by far the most impressive of the park with a 220 foot drop and you should check them out – but our favorite waterfall at Bedford Reservation are the Bridle Veil Falls with water tumbling down 30 ft. over shale gorge in hardwood forest, reached from the Buckeye Trail.
It is a short walk and easy trail to the waterfalls and once you get there, you’ll walk down the boardwalk, over a bridge and down a hill for scenic views from all angles. Plus, there is an observation deck where you can see the falls from afar (top picture) and the deep gorge and stream they fall into (below).
It is quite a picturesque hike with hardwoods and hemlocks all around with the sound of the rushing waterfall adding to the excitement when you get close! We were lucky enough to see a couple horses cooling off in the stream above the falls too. This is part of the Birdle Veil Falls Trailhead which has 10 distinct sections for horseback riders – so please be aware as there may be horses along the way!
My kids have always been the get-right-into-nature type of kids whether that means hiking off-trail or in the water! It’s a fun and shallow spot to walk along and cool off up or down stream from the waterfalls.
Even along the streams, you’ll find cascading waterfalls! It’s so fun in the summer! There are so many trails to explore at Bedford Reservation – it would take days to check out the 100 miles of paved, all purpose trails and paths!
There are even mountain biking trails within the woods that looked really fun! Pack a picnic, bring plenty of water and head up to Bedford Reservation soon to explore all it has to offer, including Ohio waterfalls!
