Working in a marketing office since college, I was so very used to carrying and doling out business cards, and after my oldest Elijah was born, I had forgotten all about that part of corporate life.
But, now I have it back! I have mommy cards. My husband bought me my first set of mommy cards a few months after the birth of our now 5 year old. I was so thrilled!
What are mommy cards for?
My mommy cards provide me a way to interact with other mommies in what seems to be a professional (motherhood is a profession!) and organized way. Whenever I meet a fellow mom at the park, grocery store, or even preschool, I share my mommy card. This allows me the opportunity to effectively communicate my name, the name of my kids, phone number, email, etc… You never know when a fellow mommy might want to get together for a playgroup, might want to check out my blog, or become friends! I’d hate to think of the relationships that I would have missed out on if I didnt have a mommy card to hand to a few folks.. Right AnnLouise? Right Chris?
What do you put on mommy cards?
- Name
- Phone Number
- Name of your kids
- Ages of your kids
- blog
- facebook name
- twitter name
- linkedin name
- Your favorite restaurants
- Your favorite parks and play places
- Your home town
- Where you went to school
Yes, yes, this is a lot of personal information, but you can use mommy cards as great conversation starters! If your goal is to get to know someone, then, feed the fire! Being friends online is one thing, but, real relationships with real people mean A LOT.
Trishden, this was actually a wonderful gift for me. My husband surprised me with Mommy Cards when my son was just a baby. I LOVED them as a new mom. Now, with 2 kids, I love having cards to pass out at the playground when one of my kids make a new Best Friend!
What a great idea! I have a niece that is expecting and this would be a great unique gift. Thanks for the idea.
Tiffany, I guess it all depends on how what you use your mommy cards for! The point isn’t to WOW another mom, but just to connect and drum up conversation:)
As the AkronOhioMom, my cards end up in the hands of local businesses, so all that other stuff is worth it too.
as a side not to my post, I do not add all that information, listed above, to my cards. Mine says Alura’s Parents at the top of the card, with both of our names, home number and both cell numbers along with our town name. And then on the back my email, which was a flub and should of also been on the front.
We have had mommy cards for a very long time, it is very easy, rather then digging for pen and paper. I actually got mine from Vistaprint for free, and just used their business card layout with a fun design. I just had to pay shipping. My only mistake….I forgot to add my email address to them. So I had to improvise and make small labels for the back of the cards with it. I know several people with mommy cards, everyone I know loves them:)
