Romantic Ohio Getaway in Amish Country, The Inn at Honey Run Review and Discount

Recently, I’ve been blogging about how to strengthen your marriage based on retreats and articles I’ve read. Ideally, couples should escape every 3 months for an overnight getaway.  For our 13th Wedding Anniversary this month, we were able to escape to The Inn at Honey Run.  And escape we did, to a peaceful retreat in the heart of Amish Country. The rolling hills and slower pace of life was just what we needed. What I never expected was such an upscale resort with all the amenities tucked away on 70 acres in the heart of Ohio.

Lodging at The Inn at Honey Run

The Inn at Honey Run offers three types of lodging, in their lodge, honeycombs, and cottages. The lodge offers 24 individually uniquely decorated guest rooms that overlook the natural beauty all around.

We were able to stay in one of their Superior Rooms with spacious sitting area and private deck. The ambiance of nature and relaxation welcomed us from the time we pulled into the parking lot to entering our room with the sights and sounds of nature. The sound scape machine softly played sounds from nature in our room. (You can purchase the CD in the gift shop.) The double set of doors led out to a good size, private deck area with a couch, chairs, and tables. It was so peaceful to sit outside on our deck to rest, read, enjoy nature, and the company of each other. Our views were that of towering trees with lush foliage abounding. What a time of de-stressing and reflecting.

Lodging at the Honeycombs is something I would like to do next time. The Honeycombs are so unique because they are actually built into the side of the hill. Each room comes with a floor-to-ceiling fireplace and rock-curved patio or balcony offering spectacular views of the rolling country side of Amish Country.

The Grounds and Trails at The Inn at Honey Run

What impressed me the most at The Inn at Honey Run were the manicured grounds. They utilized plants naturally found in wooded areas by purposefully planting them in gardens.  Throughout the 70 acres are many, many bird feeders attracting more than 100 different birds on the property. We found ourselves sitting in the common area inside the lodge as well as the large deck just watching a fantastic variety of birds.

There are both paved and unpaved trails throughout the grounds offering unique views of nature from the wooded forest to the pasture. There are two separate places where you can see horses, sheep, and cows in their pastures. The trails were very well maintained, as were even the woods. It didn’t look anything like the woods in our back yard! For as manicured as woods can be, they have accomplished it by removing dead branches, etc. Everything was so perfect and resort like. Even the lighting found in the parking areas and around trails had the soft glow found at resorts.

Dining at The Inn at Honey Run

When my husband and I went on our honeymoon, we recorded a video diary daily. As funny as it sounds, what we talked most about was the food. I’m afraid that we haven’t outgrown our appreciation for good food. Dining at The Inn at Honey Rum was an amazing fine dining experience. Our waitress, Tracy was so attentive, friendly, and accommodating. We were lucky enough to have her assist us at both dinner and breakfast.

If you are visiting Amish Country, you will find 2 things that you may not be prepared for. #1 Most places cannot serve alcohol of any kind based on their location. #2 Restaurants (and everything else) are closed on Sundays. The Inn at Honey Run has you covered on both! They offer more than 600 bottle of wine and 30 by the glass. The Inn at Honey Run offers full menu from Breakfast to Dinner on Sundays to guests and non-guests of the resort.

Dinner at The Inn at Honey Run

The dinner menu selection was fabulous, expect to spend around $25-30 per entry, no matter what you order. They have something for everyone including Filet Mignon,  Fork and Knife Burger, Local Chicken Breast, Grilled Mahi Mahi, and so much more including a Butcher Block Feature.

The restaurant is set a top the forest so the scenery is unique in that you are looking straight out into the trees instead of from below. It was an interesting perspective. Although this is a fine dining restaurant, it had a casual, friendly feel.

For starters, my husband ordered the Heirloom Baby Tomato Risotto. He swears it is the best thing he’s ever tasted. Combining the fresh tomatoes with smoked mozzarella and basil oil is the perfect combination.  It was served at just the right temperature to make the tomatoes juicy and oh, so flavorful. I ordered the 5 Onion Soup Gratin, I can never pass on onion soup. It was AMAZING. It consists of 5 different caramelized onions with the addition of garlic, shallots in a sherry-scented beef broth and then topped with melted gruyere cheese. I really enjoyed the onion soup, even though it was a warm day. It would really hit the spot on a cool Fall or Winter day. We also enjoyed both the Caesar salad and field greens salad with house-made dressings.  And I can’t forget their fresh, warm sour dough bread.

For my entree, I selected the Butcher Block Special of the day, Swordfish. I’ve never had swordfish before and since I love trying new things, I ordered it. What a treat. It was perfectly seasoned and baked to perfection. I’ve never enjoyed such a hearty prepared fish. The fresh mango tomato salsa perfected it.

For my husband’s entree, he had the Grilled Filet Mignon. He can never resist Filet Mignon, honestly, neither can I. The filet was juicy, tender, and delicious with the brandy demi-glace. It was paired with roasted shallot potato puree and spring vegetable medley. There is nothing I enjoy more than a great filet with potatoes, so I also enjoyed more than a couple bites of his meal. All in the name of the blog review, of course. 🙂

By now, we were stuffed with the delicious food but just had to try their desserts.  Crème-brûlée with fresh blackberries and strawberries was my husband’s favorite. Upside-down Apple Pie with locally made vanilla ice cream was my favorite. Both desserts were heavenly and the perfect ending to a scrumptious meal.

Breakfast at The Inn at Honey Run

If you stay overnight at The Inn at Honey Run, you will enjoy a complementary breakfast that consists of fresh granola with yogurt, fresh fruit, an assortment of bakery and pastries, and coffee / juice. Each component is served as a course, to start your day in a relaxed, orderly manner. I liked that. We chose to have our breakfast at 10:30 because we are #1 lazy and slept in and #2 still full from dinner the evening before. You can tell we really enjoyed our restful, relaxing stay at The Inn at Honey Run! There is also a full breakfast menu and breakfast cocktails available.
