The greatest amateur racing event in the world, the Soap Box Derby has raced into Akron this week!
Nearly 500 racers from across the United States, Canada, and around the world take part in the 77th annual Soap Box Derby on Saturday, July 26th.
The winners from races that took place across the country over the year are in town for the AASBD World Championship, right here in Akron, Ohio at the famous Derby Downs.
How exciting!
The best part is that the racers are kids ages 7-18! They will race their gravity powered race cars down 989 feet of track with speeds up to 35 MPH!
Even if you aren’t a racer, you’ll enjoy being a spectacular at this family-fun event. Besides the race, enjoy a variety of activities all week long, concluding on Saturday.

The Boxtrolls is a fantastic looking movie in theaters on September 26th. The Boxtrolls is about a community of mischievous creatures that some humans want to get rid of. However, they raised an orphaned human boy named Eggs who goes on an adventure to save them all. It is from the creators of “Coraline” and “ParaNorman” and looks like great fun.
The Boxtrolls will be at the Soap Box Derby!! They have their own custom-built car and will make an inaugural run on the speedway right before the Derby finals! Check out their car, get free Boxtrolls gear, watch an exclusive sneak preview clip and enjoy a photo experience.
The Boxtrolls will also be at the Topside Show on Thursday, July 24th where their custom-built soap box car will be revealed.
