If your house is at all like mine, it is often filled with music, costumes, and dancing. Ballet, hip hop, jazz, tap – it doesn’t really matter – my girls just love to move! And dance is a wonderful thing to learn – it teaches balance, coordination, and rhythm, and is great exercise. Their love of dance goes beyond my limited skills, however. I know ballet positions one through five, but sadly, that’s about it. Fortunately for me, and lots of other Akron area parents, Marquette School for Dance is right around the corner in Stow, Ohio.

At Marquette, children from ages 2 1/2 to high school seniors learn age appropriate dance moves under the tutelage of some very talented instructors. Marquette School of Dance just celebrated their 10th year in business. It is a vibrant, welcoming studio. My 8 year old, Alyssa, has danced at Marquette for the last three years, and I can tell you with great confidence that it is a dance school I recommend highly.
Owner/instructor, Missy Marquette, just shared details with me about their remaining summer dance camps, as how their fall schedule is shaping up:
Marquette School of Dance – Two August Summer Camps Still Enrolling
Hip Hop Workshop – August 2nd – 4th – 5:30-6:15 p.m. This camp is for kids ages 7-10. With shows like So You Think You Can Dance and Disney’s Shake It Up, Hip Hop is hotter than ever! My Alyssa has taken Hip Hop at Marquette and really enjoyed it.
Little Mermaid Princess Camp – August 16th-18th – 9:45-10:30 a.m. OR 5:30-6:15 p.m. This camp is for petite princesses ages 3-5. My almost 4 year old, Lila, is so excited to be signed up for this camp with one of her friends. Who wouldn’t love dancing and playing games with a Little Mermaid theme?
The kicker? Both of these camps are only $38.00 per camp! I think these summer camps are a great option for kids who express an interest dance lessons, but really haven’t had the opportunity to try a class yet. It’s a great way for your child to spend a few sessions finding out if it really is up their alley, and a chance for you to check out the studio and its staff.

Zumba will also be offered at the studio on Saturday mornings. Get a great work out, burn some calories, and de-stress while dancing to the latest hits!
