We stopped by the Put-in-Bay Brewery Co for lunch. I was expecting a good burger and fries at most. We were delighted to find an impressive menu filled with made-from-scratch homemade foods.
Put-in-Bay Brewery Co. Review
The brick, rustic building gives you the feel of nostalgia at it’s best, both friendly and inviting. We walked by the fully stocked bar to the dining area in the rear. There is also dining on the 2nd floor in the evening.
Of course the Put-in-Bay Brewery Co. is known for their island-brewed beer such as Summer Brew, Watermelon Wheat, Ole Cotton Top Irish Red, Captain Barclay’s IPA, South Bass Oatmeal Stout, Pass Out Bourbon Stout, and Dead Leaf Lager. They also serve Budweiser, Bud Light, Miller Lite, Michelob Ultra, Heineken, Corona,Guinness, and Coors Light until 2:30 am. Not being a drinker myself, my friend Annlouise taste-tested the Watermelon Wheat, a tourist favorite and was impressed by the flavor. We also shared a Pomegranate Brewery Mojito. It was a perfect mix of lime and mint. They infuse the mint leaves into the simple syrup, giving it a very fresh taste. FYI, the Mojito is $1 cheaper here than their competitors.
Surprisingly Delicious Food at Put-in-Bay Brewery Co
The menu was impressive with everything from Lake Erie Perch to pizza to salads to lettuce wraps to hand-pattied burgers. Everything was surprisingly delicious. Who knew that a brewery would have fantastic drinks AND food?
We started lunch off with their Ultimate Fries which are smothered with a mixture of cheddar and mozzarella cheese and bacon. Dip those fries in their homemade ranch dressing and you are in heaven. In fact, my daughter said, “The fries are so good I’m going to dream about them“.
My friend, Annlouise, being healthier than I, enjoyed their new Brewery Lettuce Wraps. She had the Caribbean Chicken with fresh-to-order mango salsa, sliced avocado, and cream cheese. It was as delicious as it looked. She also sampled the Coconut Lime Shrimp tossed in a home made sauce with tomatoes, and red onion. Her meal came served with plantain chips, a pleasant treat for her. She saved some for her hubby in our cooler bag because it reminded her of what they sampled in Porto Rico.
I’m seeing a trend here with me and the deep fried foods with my restaurant reviews. I again, tried the fried Perch Dinner, only because it is a dish the Brewery is well-known for (and because I knew I’d like it). My meal started off healthy and fresh with a large side salad with their house-made mango chardonnay dressing that could easily become my new favorite salad dressing.
The Brewery serves Lake Erie Perch in both a platter and sandwich. If you are just having lunch, choose the sandwich because the platter is huge! It was really good perch with a crisp breading. My son ate about 1/3rd of it because he liked it to much. The perch was served with a yummy homemade tarter sauce that I’d love to buy and bring back home. My meal also came with fried sweet potato fries served with a side of irresistible caramel dipping sauce.
Kids eating at Put-in-Bay Brewery Co.
Although there is no offical kids meal at the Put-in-Bay Brewery Co, there are plenty of options including splitting meals, or ordering off the appetizer menu. Our kids devoured their Famous Brewery Pizza. They are known for their signature brewery pies like their Greek pizza, however our kids created their own with pepperoni, sausage, and black olives. It was one of the best pizzas I’ve tasted. Certainly the home made, never frozen sausage is a huge reason. It had a great, crisp crust with mouthwatering toppings.
Plus, after 10pm, your choice of food at Put-in-Bay is Subway or pizza from Put-in-Bay Brewery Co. A slice for just $3 hits the spot, or order a whole pizza until 2:30am.
Annlouise and I both agree that putting Put-in-Bay Brewery Co. on your dining list is a must. We will be back again next summer.
