Yes, it is true. I was the voice of Olaf from the Disney FROZEN movie! Ok, so maybe it was just for one line of script, but it still counts right?! I was able to do a voice-over of Olaf from the Disney FROZEN movie last month during my trip to the Disney Animation Studios! It was an most amazing, once-in-a-lifetime experience.

I received an all expense paid trip to L.A. to learn about the upcoming home releases of three fantastic movies. I’m excited to share with you what I learned!
I was in the same recording booth as all the stars of the film – you know, Kirsten Bell, Idina Menzel, Jonathan Groff and Josh Gad! It was so, so amazing! Can you tell how nervous I was?!

I’ve been waiting all month to share my Disney animation debut of me as Olaf! Okay, so I was very nervous and only had one shot at it, so I wasn’t entirely in sync with the Olaf animation but I feel like I did a pretty good job toward the end of the video. Tell me what you think.
It is actually harder than you would think! The pressure is on when you are in a professional, soundproof recording booth with all the high tech equipment and people watching – and recording your every sound! This is how it worked. Once I had headphones on, the FROZEN movie clip started playing with Olaf’s text typed below. When it was my turn to speak, I read the script while trying to match up my voice with Olaf’s mouth movements. Impossible! I did my best, but it was harder than you’d think!
It was so neat to be standing in the same recording booth that every character from Anna to the rock trolls recorded their part. For my session, we did it backwards. For the actual movie, the actors record their voices with the script several times. From there, the best is chosen.
Have you ever noticed that some animated characters look similar to the actual actors? This is because the animators will watch the actor’s movement and mannerisms and implement them into the character to make it more life-like and real. The animators create the characters to match the voices – not the other way around.
I was actually able to meet the man in charge of recording all the voices of FROZEN, Gabriel Guy, the Original Dialogue Mixer.

Gabriel was very friendly and welcomed us to his studio for our voice over session. He explained how the process works and some of the technical work his team does to get the recorded voices to film. His job is amazing and has to be so rewarding!
I had the pleasure of being with some incredible bloggers during my trip who also had the chance to be Olaf during the voice over session. Tori Michel from The TV Mom – another Ohio blogger compiled our images into a fun slideshow, enjoy!
