The Cinderella story will get a modern update. Ella  is played by the beautiful Lily James. The story begins when Ella’s father remarries after her mother dies.  Ella’s new stepmother and her daughters Anastasia and Drisella move in with her and her dad. Soon, young Ella’s father passes away unexpectedly, leaving her with a jealous and cruel new family. They treat Ella as a servant girl, covered in ashes and rename her Cinderella.

Ella doesn’t let her dreadful fate change who she is or keep her from the promise she made to her dying mother to “have courage and be kind.”

On a ride into the woods, Ella meets a kindred soul – the prince – although she didn’t know he was the prince. The Palace sends out an open invitation for all maidens to attend a ball. Of course her stepmother forbids her to attend and even rips apart her dress. Alas, a kind beggar woman befriends Ella and with a pumpkin and a few mice – changes Cinderella’s life forever.
