Great Activities for Kids at the Summit County MetroParks’ Nature Realm this January and February 2011. SO mark your calendars, and make reservations where appropriate!
Refreshing Night Hike
Wednesday 1/5 @ 7pm
Join Naturalist Mike Greene to discover nature at night while hiking one full mile on the Cherry Lane and Fernwood trails. Being that this is quite late in the evening, I would highly suggest saving this for your older kids- and not the ones who will scream because they can’t move their arms inside of their snow suits.
Kinderealm: Making Sense of your Senses
Friday 1/7 @10:30am and 1pm
Saturday 1/8 @ 10:30am
Children Ages 3 to 6 discover why it is important for animals to smell, taste, see, hear and feel. This program includes a craft and short hike. REQUIRES REGISTRATION: Call 330.865.8065
Puppets Say the Darndest Things
Sunday 1/16 @2pm
Sunday 2/6 @ 2pm
All ages can join the puppets for a cute adventure and a craft- seems like a simple afternoon out to send Dad to with the kids to me!!!
Nature Drawing for Kids: Owls
Sunday 1/16 @1pm
Kids age 6 to 12 join naturalist and artist Danette Rushboldt for this “hoot” of a lesson in nature drawing. Bring a sketchbook, pencil and your imagination. Space is limited so call to register early. REQUIRES REGISTRATION: Call 330.865.8065
Snow for Kids
Saturday 1/22 @ 2pm
Every snow flake is different, at least that’s what we are taught in school. Kids 6 to 12 can discover neat things about the snow all aroung us with Naturalist Danusia Casteel. This program includes a craft and a short hike.
Groundhog Hike
Wednesday 2/2 @7pm
Is spring coming or not? Join Naturalist Danusia Casteel to find out about groundhogs and their forecasting abilities. –I’m pretty sure its mostly about groundhogs, and not their forecasting abilities…. But that’s just me guessing.
Full Moon Hike and Campfire
Friday 2/18 @7pm
Join Naturalist Maureen McGinty for a hike under the full moon, then, enjoy a warm fire on the Seneca Deck. Marshmallows will be provided, but you are welcome to bring hotdogs, burritos, and cheese on a stick to roast on the fire as well. (OK, maybe no burritos or cheese)
Nature Drawing for Kids: Nests

Kinderrealm programs are GREAT! Did them when my 8 year old was little. Gotta get her little sis there this winter–thanks for the schedule–several look fun!
