It is time for the Yankee Peddler Festival at Clay’s Park! This family-friendly event is a walk back in time to 1776-1825 to pioneer America. The Yankee Peddler Festival offers 75 acres of entertainment, food, and fun for all ages to experience life in the pioneer times.
Enjoy life in a less complicated time at the Yankee Peddler Festival. Many people will be dressed in period costumes, including craftsmen at their shops, wandering magicians and entertainers, and town criers who stroll throughout the festival keeping you informed of the latest ‘news’.
My family especially enjoys watching master crafters and artists demonstrate their skill of transforming natural materials into practical and unique items for sale. We love shopping the rustic shops throughout the woods and along the streams. This is the place to find unique gifts and home decor items. It’s not just a place to shop, each shop is demonstrating their skill at least 50% of the time. It’s a fun educational experience for both kids and adults as you witness the handcrafted trades. Everything at the Yankee Peddler Festival is hand-made – nothing is mass produced.
The food is amazing too – where else can you sample frood from colonial days that’s been cooked over open fires?! Some favorites include apple dumplings, turkey legs, apple butter, apple fritters, beef jerky, been soup, elephant ears, buckeyes, birch beer, and more.
This event is 3 weekends long and offers fun for the whole family.
During the weekend of September 17-18th, it is Children’s Weekend. During this weekend, there is even more for kids to enjoy! (The below girl could totally be my daughter with that red hair!)
There is a variety of additional entertainment during Children’s Weekend. There is a full line-up of activities especially for children including:
- Scavenger Hunt
- Children’s Theatre
- Storyteller Bob Evans
- Algonquin Spinning Guild
- Gem Mining
- Butterfly Gazebo
- Petting Zoo
- Pony Rides
- Miniatures Demonstration by Lynette Klauck
- and much, much more
Make Yankee Peddler Festival a Family Tradition
My husband’s family has made the Yankee Peddler Festival an annual tradition. Once you attend, it is likely going to be an annual tradition for you too. It’s just so much fun and a completely unique experience every year. My kids love learning about how life use to be years ago and seeing how to make things out of nature. Each year, the festival inspires them to be creative at home too!
