Copper Mug Bar & Grille Review

If you haven’t visited the restaurant at Landoll’s Mohican Castle since 2016, you are in for a huge surprise!  The Copper Mug Bar & Grille (formerly The Stepping Stone) had a fabulous new executive chef, new menu, and new decor. This major renovation was as a result of being on Fox show Hotel Hell with Gordon Ramsay.  Ramsay noted that “this is one of the most beautiful destinations in Ohio he has been to, but it just needs to be run right.” The Landolls took his recommendations and ran with them, giving everyone that visits Mohican country a fine dining experience they will never forget! The entire restaurant, including the menu has been renovated to reflect Gordon Ramsay’s suggestions and style. You are in for a treat!

The restaurant is inviting with a casual, inviting ambiance that is welcoming, yet refined but casual. That is quite the feat. It is a perfect destination for a celebratory dinner as well as for fine family dining.

Executive chef, Kyle Elsasser created an amazing new menu using many local ingredients in his dish as well as in-house made menu items like jams and cheeses. We were delighted when the hot rolls with their homemade blueberry jam arrived – as well as a second serving later! You can even purchase the homemade blueberry jam in their signature copper mugs to bring home – highly recommend this!

Our dinner began with a fresh green salad with lovely dressing.

You’ll love the menus at Copper Mug Bar & Grille – we did! They have a full menu for breakfast, lunch, happy hour, and dinner.  There is a kids’ menu as well.  We worked up a big appetite for dinner after hiking to a waterfall and climbing a fire tower at Mohican State Park!

We thoroughly enjoyed our meals. For dinner, choose from Lobster Ravioli, Chicken Florentine, Sea Bass, Angus T-Bone Steak, Blackened Salmon, and more with prices from $18-32.

I ordered Braised Beef Short Ribs with garlic mashed potatoes, asparagus, and demi sauce.

Oh my was it delicious! The short rib was melt-in-your-mouth tender and perfectly seasoned. The garlic mashed potatoes were creamy and flavorful. Even the asparagus was expertly prepared. In fact, my daughter sole a few pieces of the asparagus! It was a very hearty meal. There was no way I could finish it in one setting which made for a perfect lunch the next day!

Check out this enormous Angus Delmonico Steak with redeye demi. My teenager son was in absolute heaven. I had a taste and the steak was juicy and succulent. I’ve never seen such a loaded baked potato before – it was maxed out with bacon, butter, sour cream, and chives. It even had a creamy cheese sauce that ran off the potato. It could easily have been its own entree and I would have been pleased to have just that!  The root vegetable blend was tasty as well although I am not sure exactly what all the vegetables were – I pride myself in cooking a lot of vegetables so I’m baffled that I didn’t exactly know what made up this tasty combination.

My daughter’s favorite dish is chicken with linguine and Alfredo sauce. She orders it at many restaurants – and I make it for her often. It may seem like an uncomplicated recipe but trust me, my daughter is a connoisseur of this dish even at the age of 12. She rated Copper Mug Bar & Grille’s Chicken Florentine at the top!  The sauce is what makes or breaks this dish and it was a culinary dream of lusciousness. The addition of spinach (another favorite for her) and tomatoes was perfect although she thought the tomatoes were a little too sweet for her  – I thought they were a perfect addition for this food pairing. The chicken was succulent in flavor while fork-tender.
We couldn’t be more thrilled with the exceptional food we were able to enjoy at The Copper Mug Bar & Grille. The service was attentive, we received our food in a very timely manner. This may be the only place you’ll be able to enjoy a Gordon Ramsay designed dinner menu, so take advantage of it since it is so local.

The only issue is that we didn’t save room for dessert! The portions are large. My daughter and I could have easily shared a meal. We all three took leftovers home to enjoy for lunch the next day. I just love tasty leftovers, they take me right back to the dining experience the day before and makes me long for the next visit. I expect it to be warm by then so we can enjoy the outdoor deck seating overlooking the Mohican forest.
