Maui Wowi Hawaiian Coffee and Smoothies in Hudson Review

When it comes to coffee and smoothies, you have lots of choices out there.  But Maui Wowi in Hudson (and online) is really something special, a cut above the rest!   The tropically decorated store feels sunny and warm, even on cold, gloomy northeastern Ohio days (goodness knows we’ve got more than enough of those!).  The staff is friendly and helpful, ready to help point out some of their most popular items you might like to try.  And try I did!

What makes Maui Wowi So Special?

All coffee brewed there is 100% Kona coffee, known for its smooth, rich taste and less acidic nature. You can order a simple cup of Hawaiian coffee, add one of over a dozen flavored syrups, or go whole hog, as I did, and order an espresso, cappuccino, or latte.

I opted for one of their most popular espresso blends, the “CoCo Loco Mocho” – made of espresso, chocolate, coconut and steamed milk.  Oh my, did I enjoy every drop!  The coffee was rich and smooth, and the addition of the coconut milk was really something special.  Totally habit forming!

Other espresso specialty drinks include: Caramel Mocha Delight, Nutty Hawaiian with 3 nut flavors, Mocha Macadamia, Sunrise Over Kona with chocolate and orange, and the list goes on.  You won’t find those kinds of tropical flavors anywhere else!

And, if you like your coffee chilled or frozen, they’ve got plenty of choices.  How does a Kona Mocha Chill, or Chai Chillin hit you?  Or select from a slew of cappuccino smoothies like: Cappuccino Hanu with caramel and coconut, Mocha Almond with chocolate and almond, or Cappuccino Colada with pina colada.  All sound super delicious to me.

Maui Wowi Smoothies

If you are not a coffee drinker at all – have no fear – Maui Wowi has you covered with a complete line of all natural fruit smoothies and gourmet hot “koko.”  Smoothies have no added preservatives, flavors or colors – just a blend of  premium fruits. Worth noting is that they are gluten fee as well.

Smoothie blends include Strawberry, Mango Orange, Passion Papaya,  and Hawaiian Lemonade to name a few.  I sampled the Black Lava Beach, one of their hottest specialty smoothies.  It is made of a blend of black raspberry and strawberry banana and was incredibly yummy.  Maui Wowi will even “boost” your smoothie upon request with soy and whey protein, and other ingredients to aid fat burning, reduce stress, increase immunity, etc…

To round out their offerings, they serve gourmet pastries and scones, and even giant crispy treats for kiddos!  You can also combine one of their great coffees or smoothies with a healthy lunch option like a bowl of soup (they feature several daily), or a Spring Mix or Caesar salad.

Maui Wowi Bagged Coffees

Maui Wowi also sells Hawaiian bagged coffees, both ground and whole bean.  Some are 100% Kona, others feature beans from other Hawaiian islands.  Owner, Paul Johnson, explained to me that coffees that are made from 100% Kona beans are really something special.  Kona beans can only be grown in a 50 mile region in Hawaii where environmental conditions are just right to grow these exceptional beans. We sampled the Lion brand Hawaiian coffee, a Mocha Macademia Nut flavored coffee, and the Kauaii Island coffee as well.  All were wonderfully rich and velvety smooth.

Hawaiian Coffee and Goodies Gift Baskets–Great for Easter or Anytime!

Really, who wouldn’t enjoy a gift featuring some of the best coffees in the world alongside yummy Hawaiian cookies, nuts and other goodies?  What a nice hostess gift, thank you gift, employee appreciation gift…

We sampled two of the Hawaiian cookies featured in the gift baskets, and they were crunchy and yummy along side the kona coffee.  Maui Wowi even includes coffee scented pens in some of their baskets–now that’s what I call attention to detail!  And, they have ready made baskets in store and on their website, or they can create custom-made baskets for you as well.   Can’t decide?  Maui Wowi gift cards are a great option, and can be used in store and on line.

    I’m amazed that such a place exists and I didn’t even know it. I love the originality of the store and the uniforms!! I never realized that they would cater parties-now wouldn’t that be a thought for a summer patio party?? I would love to win this….

    We love this place! I would take their smoothies over milkshakes ANY day. If I won I would treat the whole family to a smoothie extravaganza – (definitely the Hawaiian Dreamsicle for me!)
