When we stopped for dinner, we knew this was the place to eat. Locals and tourists alike keep this place hopping. People were comfortably waiting both in the screened in porch and outside on benches when we arrived. After a short 20 minute wait, we were ready to eat.
Sam & Omie’s Restaurant Review
If you are looking for a fun, casual, family-friendly restaurant that serves up great seafood with non-seafood options, Sam & Omie’s is for you. Located in Nags Head, NC, it is centrally located for all OBX fun, including Jennette’s Pier across the street. The atmosphere is light and friendly, perfect for dining as a family.
[slickr-flickr tag=sam]With the recommendation of our waitress, we started our meal off with a Basket of Fried Veggies. This is a customer favorite and we soon found out why when the huge basket of crispy, breaded veggies of cauliflower, zucchini, and okra arrived. Each was perfectly breaded and served crisp and hot. The house-made ranch dressing was the perfect accompaniment. My kids especially gobbled up the okra, which they had never had before!

The menu had an abundance of seafood options. I’ve never seen so many seafood sandwich options before including shrimp burger, tuna steak sandwich, fried oyster sandwich, crabcake sandwich and more. Their dinner menu included all sorts of seafood too, soft shell crab, scallops, tuna steak, large shrimp, crabcakes, oysters, platters, and more. For non-seafood lovers, you can enjoy ribeye steak, North Carolina styel BBQ, chickens, burgers, salads, and more.
My kids split an order of Crispy Fried Chicken Breast Tenders with fries and apple sauce. Although there is no kid’s menu, they will split a meal with no problem. As you can see in the picture below, one meal is plenty for kids. My kids enjoyed the crispy, juicy chicken and fries. The fries were especially good, it was almost as if they were double fried, they were extra hot and crispy.

I really enjoy good shrimp, especially fried. However, since we had fried veggies, I opted for a little healthier broiled shrimp. It was a great choice, the shrimp was plump and tender and way more than I could eat. For my sides, I enjoyed fresh steamed veggies with a sprinkling of cheese on top and hearty, rustic mashed potatoes. The cornbread made the meal complete. In fact, I could have eaten that moist, sweet cornbread until my stomach hurt, it was sooo good.

My husband generally always opts for a healthier option when we dine out. Today was no exception, he order the daily special of Grilled tuna over a mixed green salad served with cucumber wasabi dressing. He said it was a very fresh tasting salad with the wasabi dressing giving an interesting, extra kick to surprise the taste buds. The tuna was fresh and hearty.
