The Skipper Restaurant Review
We enjoyed dinner on The Skipper Restaurant outside deck during our visit to Cape Cod. The cool evening breeze was kept out but the view of the Nantucket Sound was still beautiful. This really is a family owned and operated business. The restaurant owners’ son, Aidan was our server and immediately welcomed us with a delicious bread basket of rolls, cranberry bread, and crackers. You can’t go to Cape Cod without enjoying fresh cranberry bakery!
Aidan was happy to make recommendations of the best that The Skipper Restaurant has to offer, including their award-winning chowder. During this trip, we discovered that our 8 year old son really likes crab and seafood cakes. We started our dinner with Cape Cod Cakes with a spicy remoulade on the side. They were gone in no time. From this, we knew it was going to be an incredible meal!
The Skipper Restaurant boasts the Triple Crown Chowder title of Best Chowder in as the winner of the Cape Cod, Boston and Newport International Chowder Festivals. Learn more about their secret recipe. We enjoyed heaping portions of delicious, creamy chowder with generous portions of fresh crab meat.
All entrees at The Skipper Restaruant is made-to-order and fresh – something you can taste and appreciate! Choose from their extensive menu or from their Catch of the Day for the freshest seafood in Cape Cod.
Everything looked amazing so I chose the Skipper Sampler so that I could sample a little bit of everything! I enjoyed the baked salmon, scallops, scrod, and especially the large stuffed shrimp. All were baked in a wine and butter sauce. I paired my seafood dinner with fresh steamed veggies and a baked potato. Everything was cooked to perfection. I savored every bite, including the steamed veggies. I told my husband that I wish I knew their secret because I would make them every day!
My husband enjoyed the Scrod Zingarella which was an egg-battered cod with plenty of artichoke hearts, asparagus, sundried tomatoes & wild mushrooms over pasta. It was full of flavor and so fresh. Again, the portions are large, plan to bring leftovers home.
My son was astonished to receive an adult portion of their fresh breaded Cod Fish with fries and slaw. He was able to eat about 1/2 of it, which is quite impressive for the size. I had a taste and must say it was the best breaded fish I’ve ever had. If my dinner wasn’t so good, I would have helped him finish it off. It was that good!
My daughter took it easy and wasn’t too adventerous and went with Pasta with Marinara Sauce and a side salad. I encourage my kids to try new foods, especially while on vacation. She did like the cod cakes and chowder but sometimes it is very nice to order off a regular kids meal. The Skipper Restaurant offers something for everyone, including kids. Their kids menu offers both seafood and traditional food that any child would like.
Speaking of pleasing everyone, The Skipper Restaurant understands the increasing number of people with food allergies. If someone in your party suffers from one of the FDA common food allergies of shellfish, crustacean, seafood, peanuts, tree nuts, dairy, or soy, just tell your waiter. They have strict measures in place to ensure no cross contamination in preparing your fresh meal.
Skipper’s Ice Cream Shop
The Skipper Restaurant offers a tempting selection of desserts in the restaurant as well as the Skipper’s Ice Cream Shop. It is a charming walk-up ice cream shop located on the outside of the restaurant.
To my kids utter delight, they were given the VIP treatment and able to go behind the counter to select their toppings.
Grab ice cream and walk the beach after dinner – there isn’t a better way to end the day in Cape Cod, MA.
Family Owned and Operated Restaurant
The Skipper Restaurant makes everyone feel right at home from the moment you are welcomed at the door. You can tell it is a family owned and operated restaurant because of the way it feels. Onwers Amy and Allan Delaney have transformed the restaurant into the successful and popular Cape Cod waterfront restaurant it is today with a lot of hard work, remodeling, and dedication since they purchased it in 1999. Their employees are relatives and friends of theirs. Below is a picture of Owner and Mother, Amy with her son and our waiter, Aidan. They were a delight to meet.
The sand-art outside was quite impressive as well – my kids loved it!
