Benihana asked that I come out to experience the best they have to offer. Last night my family and I visited the Beachwood location, and we had a wonderful time! Although we weren’t celebrating anything, lots of other folks were- One Christmas Party and Several Birthdays!
Benihana is a Japanese steakhouse serving Teppanyaki and Hibachi style cooking at your table, as well as a full sushi bar. If you’ve not experienced this type of restaurant before it is great fun- the chefs cook your meal to order right in front of you on a 400 degree grill at your tabletop.
Part of the fun is the preparation- whether it be breaking out the chopsticks, or chiding the lovely ladies we sat with about their cell phone habits, we were bursting with anticipation!
Sushi is not specifically the prime cooking event at Benihaha, but it is one of their top sellers. My son wishes he was a bit taller so that he could watch our crunch roll be prepared at the sushi bar in the lounge area.
Sushi is an art- and half of the fun is the eye candy.
As I said above, the at-your-table chef cooks your meal. But do know that it starts with a smile, a joke or two in his native Japanese, furious spatula work and play with steam and fire!
The show continues with the rice, onions, and noodles!
Food is placed onto your grill side plate as it is cooked. Starting with a shrimp sautee, a few pieces of zucchini and then rice! And then Onions! And then the meat of your choice! Top it with Mushrooms and plate side Sauces!
I like to watch the whole grill and see what other people order… It’s always good to figure out what to order next time!
The cooking is a mesmerizing experience, and one definitely made for kids AND adults alike! Benihana has a kids menu, and the chefs give them special attention, but my two kids were the two out of 3 under 18 during our visit there- so you can definitely consider it an adult location as well.
My daughter, to my occasional horror, LOVES her Ramen noodles. This is not a healthy habit, nor is it one I indulge (at $0.24 per serving). But the word NOODLES does indeed lift her spirits and brings a smile to her face. At Benihana, it was practically a requirement to let her choose noodles over rice as an add-on. Happy Girl. 🙂
