In the heart of Ohio, Put-in-Bay is a sparkling gem, a beacon of fun, sun, and delicious dining. At the forefront of this gastronomic scene is The Boardwalk Upper Deck, a restaurant where the atmosphere is as appetizing as the cuisine.

Nestled perfectly by the water, The Boardwalk Upper Deck is more than just a restaurant – it’s an experience. Imagine having your meal surrounded by a panoramic view of the Put-in-Bay Harbor. This 180-degree feast for the eyes showcases sailboats gracefully gliding in, individuals soaring on parasails, birds dancing in the air, and the stunning expanse of Lake Erie. Truly, it’s a delightful backdrop for a meal.
Inside, the dining room is a delight with high ceilings donned with decorative lights. The wooden ceiling beams, tables, and bar create a warm and inviting atmosphere, making you feel right at home. Thanks to the large windows, you can enjoy the natural sunlight and beautiful views, including the iconic Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial. And for those who can’t miss their game, strategically placed flat-screen TVs ensure you’re kept in the loop.
What got me excited, and will likely thrill all my fellow foodies, is the diverse menu that The Upper Deck has curated. Their chef creates freshly-prepared lunch and dinner specials, which are a hit among locals and tourists alike. Be it tender filets, satisfying burgers, tasty pastas, refreshing salads, or seafood dishes that’ll make you swoon – there’s something for everyone. And don’t worry, parents – they’ve also got a great kids’ menu! Plus, this spacious restaurant has plenty of seating even for large groups. My family of 12 enjoyed sitting together. I recommend reservations for large parties.
The Upper Deck Boardwalk favorites that everyone goes there for include Maine Lobster, Alaskan King Crab, and their Famous Lobster Bisque. We visit Put-in-Bay and eat at the Boardwalk every summer. I always order either the Lobster Roll or Lobster Bisque, they are both my favorite. I was happy when our waiter recommended the Upper Deck Lobster Roll, a quarter-pound of Maine Lobster Claw and Knuckle meat tossed in butter and Old Bay spice, heaped generously on a toasted split-top roll and topped off with their famous Lobster Bisque. Paired with their homemade chips, it was amazing and will now be my go-to meal everytime I visit Put-in-Bay. My dad and I both ordered it and loved it!
The Upper Deck Burger is another crowd-pleaser. This colossal half-pound steak burger, topped with applewood smoked bacon, American cheese, a fried egg, and crispy fried onions, is a carnivore’s dream.
It’s a mouthful of delight that my mom and brother simply loved.
The Blackened Chicken Caesar Salad, brimming with romaine lettuce, parmesan, and seasoned croutons, topped with a generous grilled blackened chicken breast, is a lighter but equally delectable choice that my sister enjoyed and could hardly finish!
For the adventurous like my future sister-in-law, there’s the Sweet Heat Fried Chicken Sandwich. This breaded and fried chicken delight comes with pepper jack cheese, Korean BBQ sauce, lettuce, and tomato, striking a perfect balance of sweet and spicy.
And let’s not forget the healthy yet delicious Mahi Sandwich, with its blackened Mahi Mahi fillet, lettuce, tomato, and house-made tartar sauce. Both my kids enjoyed this meal!
The Upper Deck hasn’t forgotten the little ones. They offer an impressive kids’ menu that’s more than just the usual fare. My niece and nephew were thrilled with their options. They had a tough time deciding between the corn dogs and fries, Mac & Cheese, pasta, chicken fingers, and burgers. Ultimately, the Mac & Cheese won my nephew’s heart, while my niece couldn’t resist the corn dog. The portions were kid-friendly and the quality was top-notch, leaving the little ones happy and satisfied. As a mom, I know how important it is to find places that cater to kids’ unique preferences and The Upper Deck hits the mark beautifully, plus they are served in a frisbee so there is a sourinver!
When it comes to service, The Boardwalk Upper Deck truly shines. Despite the bustle of our large group, we were seated promptly, and our server was exceptional – always attentive and ensuring our glasses were never empty. Our orders were taken and delivered to the table in a snap, making for a delightful dining experience enhanced by the friendly and efficient waitstaff.
