With my husband’s family being of Latin decent, I have to admit that we’re snobs when it comes to Latin food. We have tried too many restaurants and convenience foods that just don’t have the right blend of flavors and spices, and leave us pining for Abuela’s (grandma’s) home cooked Latin food recipes. Recently, however, we had the opportunity to review several Latin food dishes from Nueva Cocina Foods. Amazingly, these simple, make-at-home products have earned two thumbs up in our house!

Ever had this happen to you: It’s meal prep time, and you find yourself wanting something different, but lacking the inspiration and time to make it happen? Nueva Cocina has the answer: spice up a ho-hum meal with a Nueva Cocina dish like Coconut Raisin Rice, Black Beans and Rice, Mexican Rice, Chipotle Tacos, or a great vegetarian soup like Spanish Style White Bean Soup or Latin Lentil Soup.
The best part is that with Nueva Cocina, these wonderful Latin food dishes are SO EASY to make! Most of their products only require that you mix what’s in the box or pouch with water and a touch of olive oil, and voila – you have a great, authentic tasting Latin food!
The first Nueva Cocina Latin food product we tried was the Coconut Raisin Rice. Per the directions, I added water and 1 teaspoon olive oil to the boxed mix. While it simmered, the kitchen filled with a wonderful, slightly sweet aroma.
Alongside my oven roasted chicken, the Coconut Raisin Rice made a great meal. We really liked it, and my husband went nuts for it! It’s a wonderful side dish, one that I would say is even good enough to serve for company. I’m not sure I’ve ever said that about a box mix before. Neuva Cocina’s Coconut Raisin Rice impressed us with its authentic flavors, and wonderfully balanced spices. I was equally impressed with the fact that all of Nueva Cocina’s Latin food products are all natural and preservative free! Nueva Cocina also has a slew of gluten free products to choose from.
We’ve also enjoyed Nueva Cocina’s Spanish Style White Bean Soup (Caldo Gallego). It turned out to be the perfect vegetarian lunch on a cold fall day. And once again, I only had to add water and a touch of olive oil to the packet to make this satisfying, unique tasting dish. It had a delicious mildly smokey flavor to it. We enjoyed it plain, but the packet also suggests adding sliced sausage or ham for an even heartier meal. I’ve gotta tell you, I loved just pulling the soup packet out of my pantry, bringing the ingredients to a boil, and 20 minutes later, having a delicious, healthy meal ready to go.
We have yet to try the other products Nueva Cocina sent us: Chipotle Taco Seasoning, Picadillo Taco Seasoning, and Latin Lentil Soup. I have no doubt in my mind that they too, will be crowd pleasers!
