When we go on vacation, we try to eat as healthy as we can. This usually means stopping by a local produce stand or at the very least the grocery store. Our first stop was in search of good Outer Banks produce. We were lucky enough to be introduced to Nags Head Produce, located in Nags Head, offering “locally grown and seasonably fresh” produce for locals and tourists.
Nags Head Produce Review
Nags Head Produce is a different kind of produce stand. The owner, Anna Taylor has a passion for food and providing her customers with the best of the best. After speaking with her, I could tell that she has a heart for providing people “real” food that is healthy, fresh, and delicious. She desires to encourage people to get back to the basics of healthy produce. She works side by side with local outer banks farmers to choose what produce would best suit her produce stand with wholesome food at the forefront of her decisions.

The produce at Nags Head Produce is all locally grown and seasonally fresh, this means you get real Outer Banks produce, not something shipped in from across the country and beyond. Knowing that your food comes from a trusted source at the peak of freshness is what Anna delivers to her customers, both locals and tourists every day.
If I lived in Nags Head, I’m sure this would be my one-stop shop for all my family’s vegetables, fruits, and even products like pickles, jams, preserves, salsa, and even fresh peanut butter. While we visited, there was an abundance of fresh sweet corn, cucumbers, squash, zucchini, potatoes, onions, peppers, tomatoes, beans, watermelons, cantaloupes, and more.

While on vacation, I shopped a little differently. From the abundance of fresh fruit, we chose a “Honey Hock” type watermelon that was super sweet for evening snacks and fresh, juicy peaches for on-the-road snacking. We bought mostly vegetables for cooking while on vacation. We chopped up the peppers, onion, and tomato for Italian sausage sandwiches one night and then again with our breakfast egg burritos. We thoroughly enjoyed the white corn for dinner another day. It was so nice to have fresh, locally grown produce to feed my family while on vacation.

We also bought FROG Jam and Peach Salsa at the produce stand, which we elected to bring home with us. We broke out the Peach Salsa during a party the other night and everyone raved about it. The mixture of sweet and hot awakens your taste buds in a delightful manner. Yummy! The FROG Jam is a mixture of fig, raspberry, orange, and ginger. This isn’t a combination easily found in Ohio! My family has been enjoying this jam with it’s unique and flavorful taste on English muffins for breakfast. It’s delicious. Anna Taylor, the owner of Nags Head Produce has a few items being privately labeled next season as well.
Nags Head Produce is located right next to Austin Seafood, a favorite spot for fresh seafood for more than 50 years. Between the two places, you have the freshest produce and seafood in the Outer Banks!
