We read a lot to our kids, they love it and it is a great bonding time. Most of our reading it done before bedtime. We just recently started introducing short books on tape. It adds more interest to story time as we flip through the pages together and listen to the books being read. I feel like I am a decent animated reader but famous talents such as Vanessa Williams far surpass my abilities. We recently had the opportunity to review the Bad Kitty Book & CD Set, one of bestselling children’s author Nick Bruel’s best books. The CD boasts an audio of Vanessa Williams reading the story with enthusiasm and excitement!
Bad Kitty Book & Cd Set Review
Elizabeth, my 5 year old really enjoyed the Bad Kitty Book & Cd Set. We’ve listened to it several times at bedtime so far.
The CD has two tracks. One is the story told without any pauses, this is great for traveling in the car, listening to the story. The 2nd track includes beeps to turn the page, so kids can learn to follow along in the book and turn the pages with the audio. This is great for kids learning to read to help them from getting lost in the story. Sometimes Elizabeth wants to listen to it both ways, back to back!
The Bad Kitty story is all about a good kitty who turned bad when her family ran out of cat food. Instead, all they had were yucky foods like Asparagus, Beets, and other unappetizing foods for kitty. Each unappetizing food is associated with a letter in the alphabet and leads your child in a journey through the alphabet with Bad Kitty. The reaction to these bad foods turned the good kitty into Bad Kitty. Bad Kitty then Ate my homework, Bit Grandma, Clawed the curtain, etc. The book takes your child on another alphabet journey through Bad Kitty’s bad, yet humorous actions.
Thankfully, Bad Kitty turns good again when her family buys her new, delicious kitty foods. The book takes the reader through another alphabet journey through the good foods that Bad Kitty likes like Anchovies, Buffalo, Cheesecake, and more. I was a bit surprised that kitties like foods like hippos, but I guess I’m not a cat! 🙂 Then, as Bad Kitty eats the good foods, his actions are good, he redeems himself with 26 more good things, taking your child through the final alphabet journey. It is a very clever book that is entertaining and educational at the same time!
