Exciting family fun trivia game! Wise Alec Review

We just celebrated Christmas with my family earlier this week. Usually we have dinner, open presents, and then sit around watching the kids play. Conversation is fine but things normally wind down and people retreat home to get the kids to bed. I decided to give my 11 year old (almost 12 as he corrects me) nephew Wise Alec for one of his Christmas presents. My brother and sister-in-law are great at having family game nights and I figured another game would be a good present. I had no idea absolutely fun Wise Alec would be or how late everyone would stay laying it!

I asked everyone if they would like to play Wise Alec, mostly for my review. I’m so terrible, I know! Thankfully everyone agreed. 🙂

Hands on Review of Smart Alec

So, how fun can a trivia game be for kids ages 8 through adults age 55 really be? You might be surprised to know that we had the most fun at any family gathering we’ve had because of Smart Alec!

So, this is about 1/2 of who was playing Wise Alec. The game comes with 6 different color game pieces but we had more people playing by making teams.  With Smart Alec, there is no end, you play as long as you like. Cap it off at 20 minutes, 40 minutes, whatever and the person with the most points wins. Or play until the first person gets to a certain point level. I wasn’t sure how this would work with no real end in sight. I thought we might play for 15 minutes and that would be it. We finally ended the game after about 1 1/2 hours that flew by with lots of laughs and fun!

When you roll the dice, you can move in any direction  you want which pretty much ensures that you can get your favorite trivia category, most of the time. You can choose from History, Science, Spelling, or a Wise Alec challenge.  There are 2 choices with each card, a 3 point or a 7 point question. It was fun to see who would choose the easy questions and who went for higher points. I also learned more about my family by what category they went for. My sister was a spelling bee queen in school and my 11 year old nephew is great at spelling so they always chose Spelling. My sister-in-law chose History a lot and my brother-in-law hit up Science.

I tended to shoot for Wise Alecs. Wise Alec cards can be anything from tongue twisters to physical challenges to odd trivia. Toward the end, almost everyone wanted a Wise Alec card because they were just super fun and silly. Of everyone in the room, only my dad could touch his nose with his tongue when that Wise Alec card popped up! Funny thing is, he seemed to know he could do it right when the card was read! ha ha

There were also lots of fun tongue twisters too, watch my sister-in-law try it!
