I enjoy a good romance story, one that pulls at my heartstrings is even better. An Uncommon Grace is a book full of love, loyalty, responsibility, family, traditions, and many obstacles. This story takes place in rural Ohio and written by Ohio author Serena B. Miller.
The Amish people and their way of life intrigues me, like it does many people. Their strong loyalty and different way of life makes me curious, even as we drive through Amish Country. They are just like we are, people who love and want many of the same things in life. They are both gripped and comforted by their way of life.
In An Uncommon Grace, the story revolves around a young man who is questioning some of the traditions of the Amish lifestyle. As you may know, if the stricter sects of Amish, to marry outside of the faith is to be totally banished from the Amish community, including their family. The Swartzentruber sect of Amish are ultra strict, learning the rules of this sect is mind-boggling, especially in how it affects the lives in this book.

In this book, a young girl Grace Connor is a skilled military nurse in Afghanistan. She has served her country in Afghanistan and it was time to decide whether to stay or go back home to Ohio. With a letter from her sister begging her to come home, she decides it is a sign from God to not reenlist.
Even in rural Ohio, Grace finds a way to use her nursing talents to rescue a neighboring family who were wounded by intruders. Grace is able to save the mother but the father could not be saved. In this incident, Grace is introduced to Levi, the son of the Amish parents.
The forbidden romance begins without their control. Each knows the costs. Levi falls for the forbidden Grace but knows that to choose Grace is to abandon his now widowed mom and his younger siblings, since he would be banned. His loyalty to his family, his questioning of the Amish faith, and the strong love of Grace is a whirlwind for Levi. Knowing the consequences of this forbidden love, Grace must decide whether to stay with her family, knowing that the man she loves is so close, yet unattainable or to reenlist with the military.
An Uncommon Grace is a beautiful story of love, commitment, and hard decisions. It will grip your heart page after page with all the book’s twists and turns and your mind will be intrigued with learning how the Swartzentruber sect of Amish live.
