So, you want your husband to pick his crap up off the garage floor, so you send him to the home improvement store in hoping he can figure out what he needs. Not a great idea- I’ve been there- there’s acres of storage solutions, with no way of knowing what you actually need. I know this sounds dumb, but, its true. You’ve stared at the rows and bins before, I know you have.
When I visited the International Home & Housewares Show in Chicago this spring, I came across a great garage organizing line from a company called Racor. Two reasons why I like Racor:
- They have garage specific solutions made to hold garage items
- Hook installation is easy and STRONG with their new line of Tornado Hooks
- They have a nifty little questionnaire that walks you through what you should buy based on your hobbies/stuff.
I had the chance to try out a selection of Racor Storage products to fit my specific needs.
Tornado Hooks Attach Directly to Drywall ONLY
I shouldn’t say this, because my husband reads this blog, but he is absolutely horrible at mounting anything to the wall. Usually there’s a dozen extra nail holes, hollowed out drywall 6″ too high from where it ends up, and unfortunately, firmly mounted hooks and screws that fall out of the wall in a week!
He was super excited to try out the new Tornado hooks. Tornado hooks come with or come attached to a thickly built tornado screw that lodges itself directly into drywall. No studs necessary!
You can’t beat the EZ installation!
Using these tornado hooks was absolutely to die for! Everything installed not only tightly but SECURELY to the wall, and, I hate to admit it, but because our master bathroom is still in its original un-remodeled state, I had him put the last few hooks to hold up my towels!! These hooks are nice looking, but don’t quite match the old décor! lol It gets the job done though – and would do a fantastic job in a garage, storage, or utility room.

Garden Tool Rack
Racor also has a simple wire Garden Tool Rack. This rack does a great job and can be installed anywhere. This rack was installed in about 5 minutes (3 minutes for pictures, I am a blogger you know) . The rack has rods to place tool handles, flat areas on top for large items, and a removable hanging basket that can be used in any number of ways.

Snap2It – Hooks that You Take With You
I was perplexed, but then pleased with the inclusion of a Snap2It item in my samples. I received a Snap2It Cord Wrap. Up until now, We kept extension cords wrapped up ‘around your arm’ and in gangly looks on a hook. With this removable wrap tool, you can take the wrap, WRAP the cord, and then place it on the wall- There’s just NO other way to keep cords!!

The Big 450 Rack
Yes, this is a wall rack that can hold 450 pounds. And No, it does not just hook to the drywall! These heavy duty steel storage arms are installed in vertical sections of 3 arms each, to studs.
Because we’re in a state of remodeling, our 450 rack is being used to hold up lumber, molding, copper pipe, plastic pipe, and random pieces of wood. Oh yes, and one oversized branch trimmer.

I am very happy to have this 450 rack as it has taken a great deal of junk off of my garage floor and into a neatly organized area away from cobwebs and sawdust.
