Do you have a nature lover in your family? I have found great naturalist field guides for both kids and adults. Waterford Press offers simple to use and understand reference guides to introduce your family to nature, science, travel and languages.
My family loves the outdoors. Elijah, is 100% Nature Boy. He loves everything from dinosaurs to insects to minerals. Reviewing the nature guides was like a dream come true. This is a fun, outdoors educational product your family will enjoy too.
We were able to review the Waterford Press Pocket Naturalist Guides for Beetles, Bugs & Slugs, and Animal Tracks. Each guide is beautifully illustrated with full color photos with a brief description of each item. It is an easy to flip through guide that unfolds to be 22 inches long. I like that the guides are laminated so they can withstand tough outdoors use by kids! The Pocket Naturalist Guides great for backpacking, hiking, camping, or use in your own back yard. My kids’ tent has great pockets that my kids keep their guides in.
Animal Tracks Pocket Naturalist Guide Review
Living in the woods, we are always finding animal tracks. We know the familiar ones like deer and raccoon. With the Animal Tracks Guide, my kids are spotting many more tracks and finding other signs of lief like stripped cones that a squirrel or chipmunk may have been eating, squirrel nests, and even various animal scat.
It’s been a total learning experience. Even the tracks that we don’t see in our backyard have been memorized by my son. We were at the Columbus Zoo this past weekend where he spotted Moose tracks in the pavement and immediately he knew what they were. The guide has 65 North American mammals and birds tracks and signs for you to explore. Plus, it has a ruler for easy measuring of tracks.

Beetles Pocket Naturalist Guide Review
Beetles, you either love ’em or hate ’em. The Beetles Guide from Waterford Press highlights over 100 of the most common North American species. They are sorted by habitat and even by “Good Garden” or “Bad Garden” varieties. This is a handy guide for the gardener. Some beetles are actually good for your garden, so you don’t want to kill those. Others can destroy your garden in a matter of hours. My kids like finding all sorts of beetles and finding them in the guide. Last week, Elijah found a beetle in the back yard that he was for sure had never been discovered ever before. 🙂 He was able to pull out his guide and find that it was actually a Striped Cucumber Beetle which is a “Bad Garden Beetle”. Luckily it wasn’t near our garden.
