The Chicken Soup for the Soul line of books always do a great job at needling into a small section of society and providing support, laughter, tears, and just plain emotion. They’ve done it again with Chicken Soup for the Soul, Family Caregivers – 101 Stories of Love, Sacrifice, and Bonding.
I’m not in this situation, but, I am sure some of you might be, or might be at that time of your life where its on the horizon. This book offers both emotional support and practical resources to help see you through day 1, and the many days that follow.
Last year, my aunts were phenomenal caregivers to my dearly missed grandmothers. It wasn’t easy for them, we all know that. They were tired beyond belief. Living nearly 3 hours away, my dad and the rest of us tried to give them help as often as we could. Those times were bittersweet. It was an honor to help such a remarkable woman in her last days, but so sad to see her in that state. It is a true act of LOVE to care for your elderly parents and grandparents.
Examples from the middle of the book tell of stories of perseverance, sadness, and sacrifice that are too hard to retell. This can be a tear jerker- but might be just what you need to hear stories of people going through tough times.
