Home Remedies with Baking Soda
This year, I am hosting Thanksgiving at our home. I have already started to think about everything I need to do to prepare for both Thanksgiving and Christmas. This involves a lot of cleaning!Arm & Hammer Baking Soda is so versatile that you can clean your home and even use it for beautifying yourself too.
Baking Soda as Carpet & Upholstery Freshener:
Instead of expensive, chemical-laden carpet fresheners, use Arm & Hammer Baking Soda on your carpets, upholstered sofas, and chairs. Wait 15 minutes and vacuum. It removes the odors and leaves your home smelling clean – not over-scented like other carpet fresheners and at a fraction of the cost. Having a large dog in the house for years and now having 2, I use this trick all the time! I get the Household Cleaning size of Arm & Hammer Baking Soda for this!
Baking Soda to Deodorize Trash Cans:
When I think about it, I add a little Arm & Hammer Baking Soda to my trash cans to absorb odors in the kitchen. You can also use it in the bathroom. Or, add 1 cup of baking soda and 1 gallon of water to wash trash cans.

Baking Soda to Polish Silver Flatware:
You can create a paste using 3 parts Arm & Hammer Baking Soda to 1 part water. Rub the paste on your silverware with clean clothe. Rinse and dry for shiny silver flatware. I will do this the week before my Thanksgiving guests come over! I tried it today and it was super easy!

Baking Soda to Wash Fruits & Vegetables:
You can use Arm & Hammer Baking Soda to wash your fruits and vegetables – it is so much less expensive than fruit washes and is food-safe. Simply sprinkle the baking soda on a clean sponge, scrub produce, and rinse. If it is a soft-skinned item, you can add the soda to a bowl of water and just agitate the produce and rinse. I never thought of doing this before and think it is a great idea. The Arm & Hammer Pure Baking Soda Shaker is perfect for this since your hands will be wet and it won’t affect the plastic container.
