There is never a time when a woman needs special pampering than when she is pregnant…except for maybe 2 months after the baby is born and she’s had no sleep for weeks! During the long hard months, every pregnant woman needs time to relax and feel ‘pretty’. However, being pregnant causes many concerns as to what is safe or not.
Is Hair Color safe while you are pregnant?
There have been no proven risks documented and it is important for you to alert your stylist before having a hair color treatment. That being said, it is recommended that you wait until after the 1st trimester to have any ‘on the scalp’ hair color. Other options include getting your hair highlighted since foils are used instead of direct contact to the scalp.
Are pedicures safe while you are pregnant?
Alert your pedicurist that you are pregnant. Some massages, such as reflex points massages can induce labor. Avoid pedicures during your first trimester. It is safe and well needed to have a pedicure during your second and third trimester. Do not undergo ankle massages during any trimester.
Are manicures safe while you are pregnant?
Stay away from manicures during your 1st trimester. If you do get a mincure it is crucial that the area is well-ventilated and the polish is formaldehyde free. Reduce your exposure to fumes. Always, alert your nail technician that you are pregnant.
What about Pregnant Massage?
Find a massage therapist that specializes in pregnancy massage. One major difference in a pregnancy massage is that you will be lying on your side instead of your back or stomach during the massage. A pregnancy massage will do wonders fo muscle cramps, spasms, and myofasical pain in the lower back, neck, hips, and legs. Massages also increase blood and lymph circulation. If you are at risk for preterm labor, have blood clots or clotting disorders, or any other ailments, contact you OB before getting a pregnancy massage.
Talk with your OB before having any treatment.
