Getting Healthier and Shaping the NEW You: A Chicken Soup for the Soul Review

Many of us are trying to be healthier—whether that includes exercising more consistently, losing weight, reducing stress, or all of the above.  In fact, research shows that among the top New Year’s resolutions are resolutions to lose weight and exercise.  Unfortunately, research also shows that our commitment to keep those resolutions wanes as the months go by.  Six months after our resolutions are made, less than half (46%) of us are still keeping them.  So what can we do to help ensure we stay motivated and keep our resolutions?

Chicken Soup for the Soul “Shaping the New You” book review

We can arm ourselves with all sorts of motivational tools.  That’s where the new Chicken Soup for the Soul “Shaping the New You” book comes into play.  A book, you scoff?  YES!  This easy-to-read book contains 101 encouraging stories about dieting and fitness, and finding what works for YOU.  And aside from crazy but lovable Richard Simmons, who wrote the forward to the book, these stories are written by everyday people like you and me: people who have struggled with weight loss and fitness goals, and found what worked for them, and beat the odds!

I love the way this book is set up too.  Each story is just a few pages long. For me, this meant that on a morning when I was feeling less than inspired to hit the gym, I could, in five minutes, read a story and get my ready-to-exercise mojo back!   Or, on a day when I was stuck in the school pick-up line, I could get through a story or two while waiting, and get my healthy living focus back for the rest of the day.

Shaping the New You can help you find your own path to success.  It’s broken into sections with inspirational stories about:  getting started, regaining control, finding the right exercise for you, learning to like yourself and your body, finding the right “magic” foods for you, having an accountability partner, and conquering the gym, and contains dozens of other great, practical ideas you can use to get, or keep your healthy you goals on track.  This collection of real-life stories is a power-packed, portable motivational tool in my book (no pun intended, but it works.)!
