I’m not an early riser, so I’m not talking about getting up at dawn to start your Spring cleaning. I’m talking about using the safe, yet effective power of Dawn liquid detergent to tackle a little deep cleaning of your tired looking glassware.
Clean Vases
Most of us store the majority of our vases away over cooler months and tend to pull them out when flowers are more accessible. Never soak vases in soapy water as a lot of china and earthenware is porous. Soaking vases could allow water to seep underneath the surface. Wash away stains, dust, and grime by gently washing with warm water and Dawn dish washing liquid. Keep a firm grip on soapy vases as they are slippery! Allow vases to air dry or use a hair dryer on medium heat to dry the interior
Clean Candlesticks
We burn candles all winter long, many of them are a mess with hardened wax. Gently pick off hardened wax by hand. Remove the remaining wax with a soft cloth and a little denatured alcohol. Finish cleaning with hot water and Dawn detergent and allow to air dry.
Crystal Clean
Get your crystal “crystal clean” by washing one at a time in a towel-lined surface. Never put crystal in a dishwasher or use hot water as crystal is softer than glass and can scratch.
Clean hard water spots on glasses
I’ve thrown away so many glasses because of resistant hard water stains. The best way to tackles hard water spots on glasses is with lemons and Dawn detergent. Rub hard water spots with a half, seeded lemon. If that doesn’t work, soak the glass overnight with a combination of white vinegar and water. Finish cleaning to a sparkling finish with Dawn detergent and allow to air dry.
