Help Your Teen Girl Find the Light with Melanie Redd (Interview)

Live in Light 5-Minute Devotions Review

Now is a pivotal time if you have girls between the ages of 12-17. According to the CDC, emergency department visits for suspected suicide attempts increased 31%  among adolescent girls aged 12–17 years. If you suspect your child is at risk of hurting themselves, call the suicide prevention hotline at 800-273-8255.  Seek medical help from your primary care doctor if your child shows signs of depression.

That being said, this is an extremely hard time in the lives of teen girls and the perfect time to introduce you and them to Melanie Redd, an author, blogger, speaker, and podcaster dedicated to sharing the light to others and the Bible verse, 1 Thessalonian 5:11: “Therefore encourage one another and build one another up…”

Melanie Redd teen girl book review

My 15-year-old daughter introduced me to the books of Melanie this winter with Live in Light and Live in Light Journal. They were on her wish-list. I read reviews, visited her website MelanieRedd.com and was so impressed by her passion for life and books that I had to interview her!  This mom of 2 “awesome young adults” and wife of 30 years has a passion for helping others through God’s word.

What led or inspired you to write faith-based books for young adults/teens?
“For years, I’ve been posting short devotions on social media. So many of my readers have been young women. It’s a joy to encourage the hearts of all women. Plus, I am a school teacher by trade. I taught both 3rd and 6th grades. I think this also gave me the heart to encourage kids.”

Live in Light 5-Minute Devotions for Teen Girls

This book is an easy way to help your teen girl “find the light” no matter where they are in their life as it pertains to God. This is a quick 5-minute devotion that helps teen girls find out who they are and what they want to be when the grow up outside of the daily stress of school, social media, crushes, girl squad drama, etc. If your daughter will commit to doing 5 minutes a day to help them find the light, I truly believe this book could impact their lives for the good – both immediately and in their future.

Teen girls get all sorts of input from Hollywood to social media to kids at school on how to be perfect.  This book dives deep to help teen girls become the woman that you as a parent and who God wants them to be – all in a quick 5 minutes a day guide.

Each day, your teen girl will enjoy a quick devotional with practical ways they can apply that day’s scripture to their daily life that will challenge how they see themselves compared to how God sees them and how the world (social media, friends, Hollywood, etc) sees them.

Interview with Melannie Redd

I asked Melanie a few questions about journaling and how to use the journal and 5-minute devotion book.
How can teen girls get the most out of the Journal and Live in Light Devotions?
Grab a pen, write in the journal, get someone to do it with you, and try to do it every single day. Mornings are best – if you can swing it!
How does journaling help in retaining information and making the passages more personal?
There is something about writing things down with pen and paper that settles them and seals them to our hearts. We remember them more. We interact and think more deeply. I love journaling myself and I highly recommend it to women and girls of all ages.
Can the two books be used with friends or in a church small group?
Yes. Christian schools, Bible study groups, and churches have used the books. I highly recommend this method for the community and the accountability it will bring!
