Prom season is such an exciting time, but as a mom who has been through 2 proms now with my own kids, I have to be honest—I was absolutely blown away by the prices of it all! From the clothes to the tickets to the dinner to the hair and the shoes, the costs add up so fast it can make your head spin.

Every high school boy and girl deserves to go to prom, but it can seem impossible for many family’s budgets. It is a rite of passage that creates memories for a lifetime and shouldn’t break the bank! That is why I am so passionate about sharing one of Akron’s most wonderful traditions: The Princess Night Project.

25 Years of Making Prom Dreams Reality
This year is extra special because it is the 25th anniversary of Altrusa International of Akron’s partnership with The University of Akron. Since 2001, this incredible volunteer organization has helped nearly 3,500 girls find the dress of their dreams—totally FREE.
Whether your daughter is coming from Akron, Canton, Cleveland, or even further, she is welcome here. It’s all about ensuring that every student in our community has the chance to feel confident and celebrated.

What to Expect at Princess Night Project for your Free Prom Dress in Akron, Ohio
I love how easy and dignified Altrusa makes this experience. They truly roll out the red carpet for our local students.
A Massive Selection: There are over 2,000 gowns hanging by size on the racks. Whether she wants something “stunning” and sparkly or a “gorgeous” classic look, there is a dress for everyone.
Personalized Help: The girls aren’t left to wander! Friendly volunteers act as “personal shoppers” to help them navigate the sizes and find the perfect fit.
The Full Look: Beyond the dresses, they offer a large selection of dressy shoes, purses, and jewelry. It is truly a one-stop shop!

No Red Tape: There is no pre-registration or qualification needed. Any high school girl can attend—they just ask for her school’s name and how she heard about the event.
Mom Tip: Make sure to park in the E.J. Thomas Hall parking deck ONLY. All other University of Akron lots are subject to ticketing, and we want this to be a 100% stress-free experience!
