I think that one of the great things we can instill in our children is the love of reading books. I really cherish memories of my mom, dad and sisters reading me books growing up. J-Girl loves to have us read books to her any time of day and I too love having that special quiet time with her. I look forward to going to the library or local bookstore atleast once a week to see what new books we can read together!
Since J-Girl will be 3 in a few months and will be attending a preschool in the Fall, lately I have been trying to grab more educational books for her. I still have a set of my old alphabet books (although I am missing the letter J book!) from when I was my daughters age and although they have seen better days I do cherish the old, torn up and ratty books that sit in the bookshelf to this day. I wanted J-Girl to have a set of Alphabet books for her own bookshelf and was so pleased when I came across the Alphabetown USA Childrens Books for ages 2-7.

A little about Alphabetown USA:
Alphabetown USA was founded in 2008 by husband and wife team Ryan and Nicole Mayer. This duo strives to create educational books that help children ages 2-7 make sense of the letters in the alphabet and the magical words they create while also offering worthy life lessons. The stories are written with ideas from Ryan and Nicoles own children and then written to incorporate the educational components and finally then illustrated by Russ Simons. Alphabetown USA’s first book in the series Where is Ziggy was awarded Honorable Mention at the 2008 NYC Book Festival for Best New Children’s Book.
Another awesome point that I think is very important to know about Alphabetown USA is that every book that is written has a designated child oriented charity that a portion of the proceeds goes to. For instance the book that I reviewed, Hannah’s Homework donates money to the Ronald McDonald House. How cool!

Review of Hannah’s Homework Book:
I was given the opportunity to review the newest book (released April 2012) Hannah’s Homework and it is such a cute book! In this creative and fun book Hannah “H” teaches children about vowels as well as the important life lesson of helping others. J-Girl was very intrigued by the brightly colored illustrations and the cute letter characters throughout the book. I don’t think that she totally got the vowel concept, but only being 2 I know we are not quite there. 🙂 I will say that introducing the “vowel gang” was a brilliant way to showcase the vowels in the story and I think in a few years J-Girl will be more apt to pick it up. I really enjoyed reading Hannah’s Homework and am looking forward to seeing what other books will come out this Summer and through the years from Alphabetown USA.
