What We Did on Our Snow Day!

akron ohio snow day

Finally, it snowed – a LOT – in Ohio and my kids were able to enjoy their first snow day of the school year! Yay! We packed a full day of outdoor fun into our snow day – I hope you did too!

First, we went sledding at Kendall Hill.

Next, we built a snowman.

And took selfies with the snowman!snowday

Next, we build snow forts and had a snow ball fight!

Finally, we shoveled our driveway and the kids built an igloo with the huge pile of snow! Even our puppy liked the igloo, as long as treats were involved!

We had a great snow day and plan to get back outside tonight once my kids come home from school. Don’t let the cold and snow stop you and your children from playing outside.

Winter is an excellent time to have fun with your kids outside, in fact playing outside is good for kids as it strengthens their immune systems.  The CDC encourages kids to play outside in the cold to built their immune systems and increase their ability to fight off a cold or the flu.  Playing outside also boosts Vitamin D levels, something that 75% of us are deficient in, especially during the winter months.

The CDC recommends at least 60 minutes of active play for kids, even in the winter (when temps are over 0 degrees and kids are properly dressed). Here are some fun ideas:

  • Sledding
  • Build a snow fort
  • Snow ball fight
  • Snowboarding
  • Ice Skating
  • Skiing
  • Shovel the snow
  • Make snow angels
  • Color snow with food coloring
  • Snowball throw using hula hoops as targets
  • Play tag or capture the flag

Take the pledge to play outside and to better health

Culturelle, the #1 pediatrician recommended probiotic brand knows going outside helps to strengthen the immune system. There is no truth that you’ll catch a cold if you go outside to play, in fact, the opposite is true. As long as your kids are bundled up, it is healthy and good for their immune system to play outside.

My kids starting taking Culturelle probiotics years ago with excellent results. In fact, if I forget to give them their probiotics for a few days, they can tell the difference. Culturelle is the #1 pediatrician recommended probiotic brand, recommended by pediatricians.
