Safety 1st ProGrade No Touch Thermometer Review

picture of Safety1st No Touch Thermometer

Every mom needs a reliable, easy-to-use thermometer.  So much is at stake when our children are sick and we need to keep track of their temperature. It is so frustrating trying to get an accurate reading, especially from a squirming toddler. It is also frustrating to have to wake up a sick, sleeping baby to get a temperature reading. We’ve all been there, do we let him sleep or wake him to check to see if his temperature is still climbing?

I recently had the pleasure to review a product that not only took the temperature of my kids without waking them but also takes temperature of food and liquid. Safety 1st ProGrade No Touch Thermometer will be the last thermometer you will buy. If you are like me, you’ve tried a bunch.

Hands-On Review of Safety 1st ProGrade No Touch Thermometer

I had the Safety 1st ProGrade No Touch Thermometer for almost a week before I had the ‘opportunity’ to test it out for real. My son came down with a pretty bad cough and complained of being ‘sweaty hot’. I was pleased to have a new thermometer to use as I’ve tried others with inconsistent results. There are several buttons on the No Touch Thermometer so I had to refer to the instructions for the first usage, which is always a good idea anyway.

It was very simple to use right from the start. Elijah did have a mild fever. Elijah is 5 but he absolutely hates it when I use a thermometer under his arm or in his mouth, this is a life saver! Later that night, I used the No Touch Thermometer again while he was sleeping and was relieved that it was back down to normal. This thermometer is easy to use, even in the dark.  Elijah did not wake up when I checked his temperature at night. I can’t tell you how frustrating it is to try to get an accurate temperature reading with a sleeping baby or child, but as a mom you already know! I have tried other thermometers including the ones that glide on the forehead, they all wake up my kids.

How to use the Safety 1st ProGrade No Touch Thermometer

The Safety 1st ProGrade No Touch Thermometer was super easy to use. Just turn the thermometer on using the ON/OFF button. Select the mode, there is a person icon for Forehead Temperature mode. Then hold the scan button while aiming the thermometer at the forehead about 2-3 inches away. You don’t have to worry about getting it in the wrong position and getting an inaccurate reading because the thermometer will beep steadily and the LED will flash when you position it properly.

Safety 1st thought of everything! The positioning beep and LED flash is especially handy when using it in the middle of the night when taking your child’s temperature in the dark! Don’t worry, the beeping is not loud and will not wake your child. The thermometer will save your last 10 temperature readings too which is great for keeping track of your child’s fever. If the temperature reading is a high fever, a special fever icon will appear. The Safety 1st ProGrade No Touch Thermometer automatically shuts off after 1 minute of non-use so you will not run down your batteries.

Check Temperature of Bath Water with Safety 1st ProGrade No Touch Thermometer

As a new mom, we fear burning our babies with bath water. It is important to always keep an eye on bath water temperature especially when they are old enough to turn the faucets on and off. Your child’s skin burns 4 times faster than an adult’s skin.  Most thermostats on household hot water tanks are set to 140°F (60°C) at the factory.  Your child’s skin could be seriously burned in just 1 second at this temperature. Please take a moment and lower your hot water tank to no more than 120°F (49°C). At this temperature, it would take 10 minutes to cause the same burn.

To prevent scalding, the safest bath temperature for babies is 99°F(37°C ). With the Safety 1st ProGrade No Touch Thermometer, it is easy to check the temperature of bath water. Turn on the unit and select the cube symbol for object temperature reading. Hold the scan button while aiming the thermometer at the surface of the liquid. You will want to hold the thermometer as close to the water as possible without touching or immersing into the liquid. Release the scan button and hold position until 1 single beep. Your temperature reading will be displayed.

Check Temperature of Baby Formula, Breast Milk, and Food with Safety 1st ProGrade No Touch Thermometer

You can use the Safety 1st ProGrade No Touch Thermometer to check the temperature of baby formula and food as well. Keep in mind that all formula/breast milk should be fed to your baby at room temperature, or not higher than body temperature (98°F/37°C).

Handy  Reminder on Microwaves: Although convenient, you should not use a microwave to warm formula or breast milk.  Microwave warming of milk causes hot spots which could burn your baby’s mouth, throat, and esophagus. If you warm breast milk in the microwave, it zaps out some of the nutrients and benefits of the breast milk to your baby.  Instead, submerge the bottle in hot water for 2 minutes. Then, use the Safety 1st ProGrade No Touch Thermometer to check the temperature.

The temperature of food can harm your child as well. Take care to check the temperature before serving to your children, especially the ever so tricky baby food.

It is easy to check the temperature of baby formula, breast milk, and food with the Safety 1st ProGrade No Touch Thermometer. Turn on the unit and select the cube symbol for object temperature reading. Hold the scan button while aiming the thermometer at the surface of the liquid or food. You will want to hold the thermometer as close to the liquid or food as possible without touching or immersing into the liquid or food. Release the scan button and hold position until 1 single beep. Your temperature reading will be displayed.

In addition to the ProGrade No Touch Thermometer, another item that will soon come in handy is the Nature Next Bamboo Gate! 😉

She is so cute pretending to sleep! This thermometer would be great to have around. The True View Color Video Monitor would have been great to have when our little one was younger.

The Beagle Buddy Potty seems like a great product. I am trying to potty train my 2 year old and I think that cute potty will really get his attention. Which is hard to do at this age.

  9. Angie Nelson says:

I would like to try the Tubside Kneeler & Step Stool.

This product looks really helpful during bathtime! It has two cushions to make tubby time more comfotable and keep Mommy or Daddy focused on what’s important. It also has a pocket where you can keep the items you’ll need right at your fingertips but out of reach of little ones!

  10. Beth Long says:

Wow – this is really cool… Love the fact that it not only tells the temperature of your child but also can test temps of bath water and formula… Very innovative… Also like that it indicates if you are taking the temperature correctly… I always double and triple check myself!

  11. Lauren Presutti says:

I have always loved the safety first line as I feel it strongly focuses on what we as parents are always doing…safety first. After browsing through their current line I love the keep close child tracker. Recently we went to the part and for a brief (but very long 2 minutes) I couldn’t find my daughter anywhere. It was very crowded and I finally found her on another area of the playground playing. What a relief, but now after this event I think this device would be very helpful to have at the park

My mom is a school nurse, and she’s brought something very similar to this home from work occasionally. It’s really cool, because you just point it at a kid’s (or adult’s) forehead, you see a little red dot that looks like a laser pointer, and presto! Temperature in very little time and with no fuss.

I looked through the website, and I’d try this digital pacifier thermometer. It’d be much easier to take my 2-year-old nephew’s temperature with it.

    Thank you for the giveaway!
